Sudden Horse Attack

Agree with everything wagtail has said. Many horses will settle but there are some that are evil bullies. One pony was badly bullied by a group of horses if was with. Got moved and slowly introduced to new field mates but as soon as went out went into evil mode and bullied them causing major injury to one. It cannot be put in with others as either gets bullied or bullies others. Having seen this will never again assume they will settle down.

Another observation I have made about low ranking horses, they are often very bargy and pushy with humans. It's as though they just want SOMEONE they can be boss of. Over the years the most troublesome biters, kickers, and bargy horses I have dealt with are usually low ranking in the herd.

So very true and its really obvious with dogs too. I had a disabled shetland on loan as a companion and he was really really bad with my great danes, I think he would have killed them if he could - fantastic pony, real character just wanting not to be total bottom of the heap

Yes, I have seen that too. My low ranking mare likes to chase and bite any dogs she can get her teeth on!

Hmm, I am not entirely in agreement with that. My horse is (or was) pretty amicable when we got him and then we had a fair few horses but he has never been bottom of the pexking order. He is now 2nd in command (and has been for years) so is my 14.2hh's 'sidekick' really. However, he has never ever had any respect for people and doesn't seem to have any idea of personal space! Lol

He loves people but he has no qualms about walking through you and, believe me we have tried everything over the years! Now, had all this NH been about way back when then maybe we'd have stood a chance but he's 21 this year so i think he's set in his ways. Thankfully, he's not dangerous and there's no malice and he's fab when you're on board!
