To start off my new year with a bang, my pony suddenly went lame today whilst out on a hack. He’d been a bit of an idiot about not wanting to go in front, had a little rear and mess about so I made him trot away from the others and then made our way back. Suddenly felt him go lame behind so jumped off (he has PSSM so immediately thought tie up ??‍♀️)
Walked him back to the yard whilst on the phone to vet, I would say the lameness was intermittent but definitely short behind. He was ever so slightly lame behind 3 weeks ago on the opposite hind leg but was fine the next day. As far as I can tell, there’s no heat or swelling. Vet said as it doesn’t seem like he’s tied up and he is comfortable in his box, to leave him tonight and see how he is in the morning.
I’m thinking it’ll be just my luck that it will be his hocks or something, as two similar incidents within a month are screaming alarm bells at me. As luck would have it the vets are coming to the yard on Monday so I guess I’ll know more then... the thought of managing arthritis or something similar and PSSM is not making me feel great I won’t lie ?

horrible feeling when they are not right and all you can do is wait.

hope it's something very minor and easily resolved.

It would be on New Years Day wouldn’t it - 2019 he picked the 23rd December to tie up for the first time!
The people who I was riding with are adamant he was sound as I trotted away and came back, it was as I turned him a second time that I suddenly felt it.
I can only hope that he’s only tweaked something but knowing my luck it’s going to be bad news.
