At 16 she is old enough to be married so I'm not sure how much responsibility you could be expected to take?! what is it that she does that makes you say she's very immature for her age? I opened this thread thinking you would be talking about a pre teen!

That aside you can't be forced to hack out with someone so if you don't want to just say no.

Without going into details I suspect (but have never wanted to ask) SEN. As i have said in other posts she is much more like most kids starting high school than finishing it. There are other youngsters on our yard who are similar age who are just more horse and world savvy that I would feel far less responsible for if hacking out together.

Where I live (outside of the UK) I would do it no problem as long as I felt it was reasonably safe. Sadly I have to say that in the UK I would probably not want to - I hear too many crazy things about liability in the UK - for example I was told that yard owners may be held responsible for children riding alone on their yards, even if the parents have allowed it, and that if my dog bit an intruder on my property I could also have a problem. Not sure if they are true, but it would massively put me off.
