My boy is on box rest for the foreseeable future after a nasty accident out in the field. He has lots of muscle damage to his hind leg, running from the hock up the inside of his thigh. He has been on box rest for 6 weeks and is on 1 Danilon a day to keep him comfy, he is being walked out in hand for 15 minutes every day just to keep him from seizing up. If there isn't improvement in the next couple of weeks we will be going down the scanning route. :(
Obviously healing has to start from the inside so I was wondering if anyone could recommend feed stuffs/supplements that promote muscle/ligament repair?
He is a chunky cob type so has some haylage every day and has his danilon in a handful of basic coarse mix mixed with apple chaff. He has lost a bit of condition on box rest but he was a bit chunky so is just right now. Someone has recommended Super Codlivine so I'm going to get some of that tomorrow, which also ties in with the vets recommendation of getting something with vitamin E in it. Any ideas for feeding or experience of anything that may help would be appreciated. :)

Muscle is protein. I'd Make sure he's getting a good vit/mineral mix and sufficient protein and supplement the amino acid lysine (Equimins sell it pretty cheaply but you have to phone order it)

My WB has chonic sacr illiac dysfunction and he had massive muscle wastage to his gluteus muscle on one side. He had his sacrum manipultaed and then was rehabilitated via long reining in a pessoa for several weeks.
I fed him Feedmark Opti muscle as a supplement and I have to say his physio was astounded at the rapid muscle gain (4cm!!)- obviously a combination of moving more correctly with a freed sacrum and the supllement - she asked what supplement he was on she was so impressed. They have a 3 for 2 offer on currently. Here's the link:

I would also say be careful what you do use - there is a serious supplement that vets can prescribe and I wouldn't recommend it as it builds muscle too artificailly (sorry not well worded) - my vet said avoid it - it's too unnatural - you just want a supplement to optimise muscle gain that's all :)
