My 10 yr old TB gelding has been back in work for the last 4 months after having the last year off. He's a really lanky 17.2 TB too, so I know he is never going to carry a lot of extra weight, but he is rather skinny at the moment and I'd like him to gain a bit more weight before the winter. His digestion is extremely fast and I was wondering if there are any supplements which would help slow down his digestion encouraging him to absorb more of the nutrients in his food. I've heard Naf Pink Powder is a good conditioning supplement but I'm not sure if it's going to slow anything down. He is currently being fed on Alfa A, Cool Condition Cubes and Bailey's No. 17 Topline (one large scoop of each, AM and PM) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You could add some oil to his diet.
Linseed is great for adding fat but not making them silly.
I feed linseed in the powder form - as linseed meal, its better than the oil as all of the protein is retained.
Also, for the fast digestion problem, you could try yea-sacc?
I feed yea-sacc as it maintains a stable environment in the hind gut.

If he was mine I woul dhave him on alfa a oil. I would have him on calm and condtion, and I would have him on Blue Chip pro feed balancer. He would also be receive Glucosamine. and a Hoof supplement.

To'slow' gut function, you need to feed more bulk forge in the feed so I would bulk him out on alfalfa. I would possibly also add some vegtable oil to his feed.

Please bear in mind that TB joints are really not designed to carry weight. therefore the horse is better on the thin side of the right weight that he will be on the fat.

i would defenitly put him on pink powder as my gelding is a different horse since being put on it. it is designed to help the gut absord the nutrient and aid digestion so he gets all his goodness out of his food. i would also up his roughage as this is what slows them down with morse haylage /hay and alfalfa

Just give the pink powder a try at least, it's suprising how many people spend money on differnt hard feeds when it boils down to good worming and gut fuction, along with good old fashioned fibre along with general vit/min supplement if your grassing is not very good.

Allen & Page CC (without the barley) along with alfa a high oil and suger beat is a combination I swear by, along with pink powerder.

I looked at pink poweder, but it only seemed to describe its self as a probiotic. As my current feed already has these in, I thought is was perhaps a wate of money!!!!

If really will make a difference, pleasee advice, as only to glad to try, although he is doing quite nicley at the minute, although still slow going

What do you mean by 'his digestion is rather fast' - I've not heard that phrase before! You say what hard feed he is getting, but what is he getting in terms of grazing or hay/haylage. He really needs to be on good grazing and/or adlib good quality hay/haylage if you want to put weight on him.

I have exact same problem but haven't tried pink powder. I have just moved to 4 small feeds per day as that's normal at new yard! I've used Alfa a oil for 4 years and curragh carron oil, similar to linseed I think. Just started him on equi jewel from Saracens, seems to be helping, it's expensive but I'm only giving smaller measure than bag states as £35+ per bag, should last few months reckon. It's very frustrating seeing him too lean, good luck!
