Suppliments

My boys gets:

Nothing in the summer, coz he doesn't have a feed and strangely he doesn't eat it if I put it on his grass field!

In the winter, he gets Top spec balancer for obvious reasons , devils claw for his mobility and soya oil for 'i've no idea now I come to think of it'!

Flo- salt (gets very sweaty), garlic and vegetable oil

Lottie- garlic and vegetable oil

3 native ponies, nothing, but the 2 mares are fed Dodson and Horrell Suregrow, which is the same as feed balancer.

All are out 24/7 at the moment. I would like to try black sun flower seeds and instant linseed for Flo.

I totally agree that people are sucked in by adverts. These companies want you to buy more products to make more money. But its also the same as feeds people just don't think and look at the ingredients, most are literally the same.

Mine gets a handful of black sunflower seeds for his coat and feet. I also give him a vit and mineral supplement as ihe is off work due to injury and is only fed a handful of chaff. I used to feed a biotin supplement but not sure it made much difference so have stopped giving him that.

I feed my horse Feedmark's Benevit which is an all round supplement. He has this because he is on a hay and grass diet only and has no hard feed or mixes at all...so I need to ensure he is getting everything he needs throughout the year given that the grass is no good in the winter and he is on a small diet paddock all summer with year old hay.

Have you sprogged yet?!?!?!

Donkey gets NAF liquid blood, just to try and boost her energy levels over the race horse mix she gets (does it work - NO) and a mug of sunflower seeds daily and if I remember garlic!

Equivite original - nutritionist said to put him on this broad spectrum vit and min supplement to make sure he gets the RDA that he needs (as his feed doesnt provide all and hes not on good grazing as hes a hippo)

Winergy ventilate - this helps his breathing. We all know about rocks breathing lol.

thats it.

All of mine get:
Veg oil - For condition and energy.
Salt - To prevent dehydration.
Selenavite E - General supplement, there is nothing better for getting them right.
At the mo I have one on Naf Magic - Slightly cold backed to get on, this relaxes her.
Another is on Equicell and Zynolix. He will just have a short course of Zynolix, but has the Equicell indefinetly - He has just come into work, and I know that he always comes off grass anaemic. He has the Zynolix to knock the anaemia on the head, then continues on the Equicell to help the immune system(all my horses in hard work have this).

Gerogie has a handful of happyhoof and naf general vit and min supplement to make sure he gets all the necessary, and garlic as he geten by flies and I find it really helps.

Rage:
Topspec feed balancer (used on 3 out of 4 of my horses for condition, but for him it's for his crappy feet in particular!)

Bamboozle:
Topspec FB and CalMag as a calmer/muscle thing until she settles into her work again.

Cybele:
Topspec FB
Gold Label Bute Free (? could be Bute Less!) as I didn't want her kept on conventional bute long term.
Feedmark Extraflex HA for her joints (bone spavins). Previously he was on the Topspec joint supplement as it is designed to be fed alongside their balancer, but it was becoming too difficult to get hold of.

Tills:
Codlivine General Balancer - want to make sure mum to be gets everything she needs, and chose this one as it's one of the only ones that she actually looks forward to eating.

All get electrolytes as and when they need them, and have access to a variety of salt and mineral licks too.

solo gets:

garlic granules, to help keep the flies away

salt, because he sweats alot as he is very dark

molasses, to encourage him to eat up (nearly finished tub and wont be getting anymore)

thrive, (in winter) it seems to stop him box walking when hes in overnite.

i feed him hifi, meadow sweet mix and speedibeet in the summer and then in the winter he gets boiled barley or barley rings because they dont fizz him uo as much as eavery other 'conditioning' feed does.

In Summer ours are on grass, Top Spec Balancer or Top Spec Anti Lam Balancer for the good doers and a handful of Simple Systems chaff. One has Mag Ox as a calmer and to help with his feet. Another has Riaflex to help with her arthritic legs (she is an ex polo pony and her legs weren't brilliant). The Riaflex has made a real difference. The others don't have any supplements at all.

In winter they all stay on balancers and have Simple Systems feed too, Lucie Stalks for the good doers, soaked Lucie Bix for the "normal" ones.

Crikey!! I just didn't realise there were so many to chose from!! My girly gets baileys lo-cal, oats, hay and grass and seems to be surviving!

one of mine gets NAF Respirator due to breathing problems
he also is on Cortaflex powder due to having suffered a fractured pelvis and therefore can be stiff if not on this

another is on Farriers Formula due to hoof problems

Youngster is on a general vit/min supplement as he's a growing boy and I feed more fibre than mix/cubes as I don't like 'over protein' in youngsters which can cause joint problems

Mickey has:

A calmer supplement to keep him chilled as after my accident I can't be too careful.

Extraflex HA and sometimes Zerobute - For his spavin.

Top Spec Leisure Time feed balancer because he is on very little hard feed and I want to ensure he gets all the vits/minerals he needs.

Supplements are a huge business/income generator for companies. It can be confusing to try to compare the contents and potential benefits of supplements claiming to do similar things.

Axel gets garlic because it seems to stop the flies, and is good for respiritory and digestion. A bit of soya oil to give his coat a bit of a shine
smile.gif
I did get him some devils claw stuff but have stopped using it for now as he's not doing a lot of work at the moment.

PG, I'm thinking of getting some of that cool calm and collected stuff, have you noticed a difference with Archie yet?

Sam x

Oskar has:

Biotal Equine Gold as he is very prone to runny poo and this helps prevent it.

Cortaflex: because he's my only horse and I can afford to keep him on cortaflex - its a preventative thing really.

Oil (cheap Coop vegetable oil, for extra calories as he is on a v. low calorie diet).

Garlic (all my horses get garlic).

That's it.

Snoop has Ultimate Balancer added to a handful of competition mix. I hold my hands up and say i occasionally feed him a scoop of calmer before an event if i think he needs it - but its only to be fed 3 hours before needed so not daily.

Winston has Equine America Gloucosimine (sp) the 13.99 job. Along with Ultimate Balancer.

Bertie doesnt have anything bar the odd glug of Coligone, and the occasional sachet of bute when hes really stiff.

None of mine get supplements.

They have grass in the Summer. In winter they have ad-lib top quality hay, oats, sunflower seeds and hifibre pellets and all of them look fantastic at any time of the year; feet are beautiful, coats are shiny, good enough for me.

When seren was younger she didnt get suppliments, but now she is a few! Mixed in with her molichaff hoof kind
she gets laminaze as she is lammi prone
garlic for the flies
cod liver oil as recommended by vet for ageing joints
i then got apple cider vinegar as this is supposed to be good for older/arthritic joints
recently i started feeding glucosamine as felt she was still stiff on the cod liver oil and cider vinegar
i am looking to cut out all the joint ones and maybe just use that pernamax as it sounds amazing and if one will do the job, i'll have it, as i seem to have got in a viscous circle with the joint suppliments lately!

My Welshie has NAF Easy Breathe as she gets an irritating cough from the hay/general dust. She also has NAF cough-ease stuff every now and then when the above plus hay dampening is not enough to stop it.
Old girl gets NAF veteran stuff as she loses condition very easily due to being ancient!

Gin has linseed pellets. Mainly for a healthy coat and I also believe it helps with her joints.

I dont agree with people feeding stuff just for the sake of it.

Mine are on nothing at the moment, they arn't even being fed (other than hay) as the grass is good and I want to be able to ride Sunny! They have those pure rock salt licks all year round, which they only seem to use in the summer when they have sweated alot. In the winter Sunny gets Veg/Sunflower Oil to try and keep some condition on her, next winter I am thinking about trying NAF Pink Powder aswell. Before competitions Sunny does get NAF Tempralex, which seems to work, but we are weaning her off it (she only has it after we had a very very very scarey event where she was terrifying!).

Gen gets the Dengie Synbiotic supplement as he gets the runs really easily but especially when he is being a real stress head. He was on Pink Powder before but it seemed to blow his brain a bit.

He is also just starting on SuperCalm from Global Herbs. He doesnt like it but it does seem to be keeping his tension at bay - JUST!

My 9 year old mare gets hormonise because she is difficult when in season, formula4feet as my farrier recommended it for her poor hoof growth, MSM ( i read somewhere it helps reduce windgalls and hers have been much less obvious since being on it) and garlic for flies/respiratory. Oh and if she ever goes to a show which is once in a blue moon she'll get a syringe of So Kalm plus! Guess i'm hooked on supplements?

Missy gets Stud mix for the obvious , that she is a growling youngster who is getting either hay or grass ( grass isnt great) ... She also gets boiled linseed for weight gain and healthy joints and soya oil for shine .

The two heavy horses have Premier Flex which is a glucosamine/MSM/chondrontin supplement for their joints. The other two don't have any supplements.
