I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely dog. A peaceful, pain-free death is the last kindness. He was lucky to have had you as his owner. Deepest condolences.

Thank you all for your kind words, it means a lot, especially when living in a country where the idea of 'better a week too early...' is not a very widely held opinion.

I know 100% that I made the right decision for my beloved friend, if I could have him back whole and well I would give my right arm, but I could not help him. I am generally quite stoic about losing animals, but this dog meant the world to me, and I cannot stop looking at his bed and wishing he was there. That is really it for me with animals, no more. Just over a year ago we had 3 dogs, now we have 1. When the last dogs and the horses are gone I will have no more. I love them, but they break my heart.
