- got up early walked the dogs and then started to get ready. Loaded the lorry and started to clean up the BGL - surprise surprise was completely minging!!
- normally our yard is dead but not today o no the world and his dog were there saying really helpful things like 'I wouldn't go in this, not driving a high sided vehicle' 'I can't believe your going in this weather...'
- needless to say the weather here has been pants all day the only variation being on just how bad it is
.....Anyway my sister is nearly 30 mins late with my groom/photographer (neice) so I load (he went on first time was really pleased
) so she jumped straight in and off we went. Get to venue and it is absolutely tipping down and blowing a hooley - neice gets number etc for me and we get the BGL off the lorry who comes of sweating from the tips of ears to the tops of his hooves and doing star jumps as he thinks he is off hunting
....neice starts to tack him up while I get jacket etc on she shouts as he has pulled away from lorry (everything banging and clattering everywhere) and has broken his leadrope and headcollar!!
Is a bloody Jeffries so not happy!
Anyway we get him tacked up and I hop on - stood next to the ramp as good as gold for me to mount
and off we go to warm up. Major drama as there are rivers running all over the yard and huuuuuuuuuuuuge puddle outside the warm up ring
- anyhoo we have a discussion and go up and down a bit before he went in. Warm up was pants - scary tiger hiding jumps in one corner meant we went sideways and cut off that corner and the wind and rain meant we went sideways everywhere else
.......Anyhoo get called into do test - not really warmed up and certainly not listening to me did some nice rein back while trying to get in the ring due to the river running down the yard and at this point the heavens opened
. Couldn't hear neice calling test due to wind
- luckily remembered it but didn't really matter as we went sideways for most of it and wouldn't go in 2 corners as there were lions and tigers hiding in the hedge
(which was blowing horizontal!!
) did mange some half decent trot, canter was shite due to going sideways - but did manage a nice halt
.....as I went to leave judge opened her door to say something to me - couldn't hear a word due to wind so went a bit closer and BGL tried to sit on the bonnet of her new BMW!!!
Anyhoo we made a sharp exit back to the lorry loaded the BGL (again went straight on so pleased with that
) then went to onsite tack shop for new head collar and lead rope and to get a drink. Saw RS owner (who I got BGL from) who asked how it went - told her and she said everyone was having a bad day due to weather and the BGL thought he was going hunting but good effort and keep going. Then went to get my score............
We got 52%!!!
Was not only bloody surprised but am actually pleased!!
So in short it was the BGL's first trip out in over year - last time he went out on lorry he was hunting, we got there and back in one piece and rode our test in the most appalling weather and din't have long enough to warm up - although I don't think it would have made any difference today
I have taken the headcollar and rope back to the tack shop - they are going to send it back to Jefferies. Part of me is glad that it broke as obviously my BGL was attached to the end off it but part of me is pissed off that it broke as it wasn't cheap and you expect a bit more form Jefferies!!
The headcollar and the lead rope both broke!!
So we'll see what they say.....
I have chilled rose or a pinot grigio - what do you fancy??
