I have clipped both of mine now - lovely velvet/suede ponies!! Have seen the weather forecast for the next 10 days - due to be chilly nights and then fine sunny days with temp in the teens! Just need to give them both a good bath now and they will be ready for the winter! So much easier to keep clean when they are clipped.

I'm not sure whether to clip Darcy or not this year
confused.gif

He didn't get clipped last year as we were having our big blip and I wouldnt hardly work him - it was enough for me to survive getting him into trot!! But now he's actually going to be worked for 45mins schooling 3 times a week and then going on hacks ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours ish in the winter. He doesnt get majorly hot some nights, and then others its all around his girth area/ under the neck so the most he'd really need would be a bib type thang. I can always clip more off after all?

It would depend whether I can get the clippers near him I suppose....
grin.gif

DL - I was going to suggest a chaser/irish clip, as well. You can always take more off, unfortunately, you can't stick it back on!!!!

Thanks everyone, and in a funny way i do feel like i've achieved something in that i dealt with it and didn't form into a wobbling jelly when he did rear.

Going to do an Irish clip on the big mare this year, also because she's a mare, and longer, blanket clips make her look like a Juggernaut!!!

Otherwise I'd have to take it all off, and don't fancy the amount of rugs to keep her warm, and a big step ladder to put them on!!!

I saw some clippers advertised the other day that said they were silent and barely vibrated, surely thats not possible?!
grin.gif

Darcy doesnt bat an eyelid when theres clippers on the yard but have tried to get trimmers near him before and he was a bit of a pain
smirk.gif
I'm sure it could be worked around though

Alright, Ive decided when I move Darcy over to my house (when..) I'm getting a sh1tland

I never had the pleasure (?) of riding one when I was a kid so I feel I missed out! Seeing them all today tottering around made me want one anyway and they would be ideal on my paddock really. I had thought about getting another horse for me, but realistically I wouldnt have the time in the next few years so yes..

I've decided . Thought you should all know/ warn me now!!!
grin.gif

Does he grow a very thick coat? I have two pairs of clippers, I bought a pair of laser ones quite a few years ago now, and never used them.

They are quieter and not so shaky, but just don't go through enough hair for the cob, and as I have a few to do now, I just stick to the Liveryman ones.

P_P did try them on the big girl last week, and they did go through her coat (finer coat), but need the blades sharpened.

Anyone know cheap places to get the blades done? on a quick turnround if possible?
