Sweet FA......Wednesday!!!

Things like half 10 m circles to change rein, and then using ten m circles to return to the track etc...think its called a demivault?!! are the BEST thing to do in my opinion to get them really supple. Use your outside rein/ leg for all your bends etc if you dont' already

I used to just haul Darce around the corners with my inside rein but ever since i've started using my outside rein to move him over etc its made the world of difference.

As Slinky says, you need to do lots of circles on both reins to supple them up first. When you do start doing some lateral work, try and achieve a few good steps first and then reward. Slowly build it up, with lots of transitions, turns, halts etc. After a while, your horse will have to concentrate and not have time to fidget.

Also, you've just had a new saddle so, give that time to settle, before swapping and changing bits. If you can get a french link lozenge one, that would be a good place to start.

yeah i do lots of circles she seemed odd today coz kept trying to canter instead of engaging i think it was her way of avoiding it.

That does sound like evasion. Also take on board what D_L says, you should be able to ride with your outside rein only.

Darcy's always a muppet haha. He's so damn irritating at times, he walked past a lorry ..then when he was along side it, THEN he spooked and flew across the road . He then walked past an electric drill etc without fluttering an eyelid, but a twig!?!?

And that little episode was from the fruitpickers under the cherry nets haha, suppose I could give him that one.

And I dont honestly know, just feeling just a bit lost with everything lol. Not uncommon for me!

Oh! Darcys a pro at the hopping into canter lark
smirk.gif
A firm growl with him every time he did it was enough to get him to stop it. When they're trying to do it every other stride its very testing

Don't feel like that D_L. That's being very hard on yourself and you certainly don't deserve that.

Horse always try us, that's why they are fascinating!!! and why we ask so many questions in our effort to understand them. You are doing really well

ok so when you say half 10m back to track like an icecream cone shape? havnt actualy got arena to work in so just trundling round field at mo, aim to have my dressage markers up tomorrow mayb.

will look into the french link lozenge bit.

ok so what is the diff between a dr bristol and a french link because i thought i found the dr bristol but they are similar and its looks like that one but obv without the copper bit

That's a french link.

The other french link ones have a lozenge(or peanut) in the middle. Now, as you want to try this, I'd go for the french link first, as, I think the peanut ones are quite dear.

The Neue Schule and Sprenger ones are expensive, especially if you just want to try it out.

They are brilliant bits though. I've had a KK sprenger training snaffle for my mare for the last 12 years. It is the only bit she settles to.

Years ago they didn't have e bay but I wish they had!! I paid a fortune for it, as they were only just coming onto the market!!

Idlp - can I ask, does your horse have a large tongue or a narrow palette?
smile.gif
I think this can make a difference in suitability for your bit

f_s - I know what you mean - mine have Sprengers (spoilt brats

) but I really feel they go better in them and definately mouth them so much better - Nixon is normally happy to deposit green foam on shoulders to display this......

ldlp - I'll have a look at that link....

Just looking at your signature pics I think that french link would be fine. It doesn't look too thick.
