Tack Room Tidy... Tips?

Hello it's me again

So the tack room is full of my Dad's tools as well as tack, numnahs, boots, hats/whips, first aid and also the feed, grooming stuff/sprays etc. It's not very big and has an awful lot of crap in it, but unfortuantly we can't get any new storage for now. It's very messy and disorganised so if anyone could give me any tips to help tidy it up again without (ideally) buying anything new and expensive?

Also if someone could kindly let me know how to post pictures I will show you 'the mess' as I call it ;D x

Throw away the crap you dont use and tidy the place up. Keep it tidy. Job done.

Shelving and hooks everywhere to keep everything neat and tidy

I got some amazing sturdy metal workshop shelving from eBay cheaply. Worth a look as local pick up only stuff often gets less bids being to a limited audience.

Echo metal storage cupboards (only any good if you have a way of collecting them though as usually require a van) Or I use the plastic garden chests.
Sort through and be ruthless, throwing away/recycling/selling stuff not needed/that doesn't fit etc.
I have a garden chest. It has a plastic box with my first aid kit in, and on top of that is a plastic box with lotions and potions etc in. The numnahs are all (clean) in a plastic bag, I have another plastic bag with clean towels/cloths, another plastic bag wih spare boots, headcollar etc and so on. It keeps everything neat and tidy that way

I really like plastic drawers for organising and keeping stuff clean and tidy.
I have some small deep ones and some big wide ones. They stop your stuff getting dusty and better than having stuff stacked in boxes, because you don't have to get all the boxes down to get to the stuff at the bottom.

Cheap and cheerful solution plus easy to move about when you need to. I keep all sorts in mine, grooming kit, vet stuff, tack, you name it.

Shelves & hooks are an easy, cheap solution.

Plastic garden chests are great rug boxes, old metal lockers make great storage and Ikea storage bags are great for saddle cloths, boots, etc.

I would say don't get anything plastic. We have had rats and mice chew their way through so now I will only use metal storage.

I had a massive clear out last week and I was totally ruthless (Although a few things of sentimental value crept back in)

Now my shelves and trunks are stored with no overflowing and everything is so easy to find, once you sort out the stuff you wish to keep or not its quite easy to see what storage is needed, I was quite shocked at how much was stored away and now its gone I just don't miss it

Or have a selling spree and buy yourself some nice storage for all your bits and pieces, although filing cabinets, shelving are often offered on-line for free. Someone I knew picked up 2 lovely kitchen cabinets for her tack room, it was new/free but surplus to requirements when someone put a new kitchen in

I use old freezer baskets in my tack room. I hang 3 tied together at an angle one below the other so it is easy to put stuff in. The top one is tied to 2 wall hooks. You can see everything easily even if stuff gets mixed up!

I think the key is to not have masses of stuff, in a small space.

My storage area is at the back of my stable, seperated with a partition wall. It's as wide as my stable, but not very deep so can only really use one wall for floorspace.

Ive got a tub trug which fits a straw fork, small broom plus a dustpan & brush (I keep my wheelbarrow inside). Next to that've got two bins to hold feed and above that a shelf I keep his supplements & other lotions and potions in a box on.Next to the feed bins underneath the shelf I have 2 plastic boxes stacked which hold his (admittedly) few rugs & things like towels, spare headcollar/leadrope. Another smaller box for his first aid kit sits on top.

I then have a series of hooks on the opposite wall to hold:
• Storage bag for my lunge lines & other ropes
• Grooming bag
• Bridle bag

In the corner is a home made whip holder.

On the nearest wall I've got a small white board plus calander.

I take my saddle home (and his spare saddle clothes, etc) but I do have a collapsible saddle rack for when I'm there.
