So today I trimmed Elvis' fetlock hair, cut his tail (too short maybe) and pulled his mane and forelock. Sorry about the picture quality, I finished quite late. But what do you think? Shame he hasn't got much muscle, he'd look much better with a nice top line, but he's only been back in gentle work for a month. What do you think about his weight? He got a bit tubby over summer but I think going into winter he's about right.

I'm quite pleased with my work :)

He looks very smart. The tail is definitely not too short. I think he does look overweight though. Hopefully that will improve coming in to winter and if you are going to be able to increase his workload too.

Sprig what would you body condition score him? And yes workload is on the increase, up to 2x30min schooling sessions (w+t+c), 2xhour hacks (w+t) 2x20-25min lunging sessions (w+t) per week, so shouldn't be long until he's looking a bit better. And he's only on a sprinkling of un molassed hifi and a few nuts twice a day for his supplements. Plus all his hay is soaked.

Thank you, he's always been quite shiny, but I give him a good brush most days, I'm hoping it's a sign of good health :)

Please bring your comb and scissors to my yard. Ted and Alice could do with a big make over.

Your lad looks grand, do you know how he is bred ?

Elvis, I am not an expert and I like mine pretty lean and fit so would not like to score him for you. I think the angle of the pic is probably not that flattering for him but it does look like he holds weight on his bum and tummy. His neck also looks quite weak so that will accentuate weight he is carrying elsewhere. I have not read your previous posts, is he coming back in to work from injury? The work you are doing with him sounds great and he certainly has a lovely healthy shine. What do you do with him?

AA- I'd be happy to, I've really got into this trimming and tidying! I've only had a proper welshie before so had to leave the mane, tail and feathers!
His dam is a ShirexTb by Button Bright
And his sire is BG Acquistion an American TB. He's weak conformationally but I love the Shire in his personality, and just fell for him.

Sprig- yes he does carry his weight on his bum and tummy, and his neck is weak, he looks a bit better with tack on! And he injured his pastern and has had about 2.5 months off recovering but it's all healed now and the vets have said it's just a case of getting him fit. He's bred to event and I'd love him to do that but we just do a bit of everything at riding club level. :)

Thank you, feeling much better about the tail now! I had planned on saying it was intentional to avoid the mud, to anyone that asked!

He looks in similar condition to my mare, who has been off work all summer and is "soft". I took her to a weighbridge and nutritionalist day this summer, and they scored her at 3.
