Quick Q as I'm a bit unclear as to what to do.
Basically, had been told by new yard owner to put horses in a particular field because he didn't want to spend £150 cutting the grass down again. (It have become overgrown due to them spraying it for ragwort).
The field has no shelter (yard owners not buying any) so the other woman at the yard decided we were going to let them all have access to the stables (accident waiting to happen surely
).... I did say I wasn't sure it was a good idea, but my mare has been on this yard for 6 years (only bought her officially a month ago have known her and other woman on this yard for 2 years) and they said they've done it before with no problems. right.
Anyhoo, basically damage HAS been done, one of their stable doors can no longer close as the walls have been bent inwards and the wood snapped. My mare has got the blame because she has sweet itch. However she has hardly rubbed her tail, I have seen her rub her mane but no chance it would have caused such damage.
There was an incredibly *****ty note left for me, even implying I was tying my mare up on their damaged stable and that if she found out I had I'd be seeing this womans "true colours". Bit unnecessary! I have seen one of their ponies rip panks of wood off the wall, and corner their other pony in its stable, yet I end up with the blame. I did mention this but she said "17 years and we've never had a problem...."
She said we were going to "SPLIT" (was written in big letters!) the bill. I'll assume she meant half and half. But she's p*ssing me off so since she has 3 horses and I only have 1 I was going to pay a quarter. She's the kind of woman who was going to charge 20p for every poo she picked out recently in the field (!)
Anyway, since there's no evidence whatsoever that it was my mare am I supposed to pay out? The rent is so cheap there is no way the yard could possibly have insurance....
who is responsible to pay this? I'm leaving ASAP and just want to tell everyone to f off as I'm so sick of how they are but I don't want to be unreasonable just because I have issues with them. Should the yard owner be paying? Am I being pretty saying I'll only pay a quarter? there is no yard contract or anything like that.
Any advice most welcome! Sorry it's a long one
