Talisker update - NOT happy with vet...

Talisker still has chronic diarrhoea - this is day 11 now

I rang the vets on Friday (3rd day of Panacur treatment) and was told to put him onto ProKolin, despite the fact that I had already told them this wasnt effective, I had tried it before I took him to the vets.

I did accept that the Panacur itself might be upsetting him so waited until today to see if he improved - still really bad, so I phoned the vet this morning for advice.

Vet hadnt bothered to ring me back by tea time, so I turned up at the surgery and demanded (politely) to see him. Finally got to see him, and was pretty peed off with the outcome - he didnt seem to have a clue

He prescribed Lectade (electrolytes), Kaogel (stronger kaolin/morphine solution than ProKolin) and Metronidazole (antibotics, which Star suggested would be good when I first posted about this!)

He wants to see Talisker again on Friday, in the meantime he is being starved yet again for 24 hours and will go onto chicken and rice tomorrow night.

I have just had enough with this vet, so if anyone can recommend a vet in Ledbury (south Herefordshire) or the surrounding area (20 mile radius?) then I would love to hear from you please

I know this is slightly more than a dicky tummy but when my dog has diarrhoea i feed manuka honey and find it really helps it is live and also an antiseptic.
I wouldnt be very happy with the vet either and would see how the next 48 hours go if no improvement i would definately seek a 2nd opinion ( although cant help with who in less you fancy driving up to nottingham!!)
Will keep my fingers crossed for you both that he starts to feel better soon.
 
FFS - know what you mean. Boydog has had FOUR lots of different ear drops, biopsies and a large vets bill to get to the bottom of various infections and allergies - a tiny bottle of Thornit (thanks for all here who recommended) and a bag of James Wellbeloved and touch wood, it's pretty much sorted.

All the vet could say was that maybe the bacterial balance in the gut wasnt right, but really he had no idea

And TBH my real impression was that he wasnt really interested/bothered?

Absolutely fantastic man, he will try his hardest for you, but not at the expense of the dog. The other vet there, Alice, is also a very good vet - though possibly the only person on the planet who can use phrases such as 'goody gum drops' in general conversation!

I am presuming you use LV? I would avoid G&S as well, if I were you.
 
thats a bit naff, id go for 2nd opinion too, may look on internet for a specialist in that area? or just try to find another vet a.s.a.p. if you are really conerned!

Yes, I'm using LV at the moment - unfortunately the rescue people use him so he has just been recommended to me on the other forum I have asked on

I'll try Eden Tanner if this set of treatment hasnt worked within 2-3 days, I just need to get a printout of the lab test results to show him so I dont need to get a second lot of tests done!
 
That's really horrible to hear, that you feel your vet isn't doing his best for you and your dog.

I can only say that, when we bought a new house about ten years ago, I was SO relieved that though we moved, almost from one end of Ghotenburg to another, we now actually live closer to "my" vet clinic. One of my biggest fears about moving, was that if we moved to far, I would have to find a new vet.
And though I know there's other good vet's out there, I know what I've got but not what I would get.


Hope you get him sorted out soon, from Sweden.

I am also covered in bite marks where he didnt want to take his tablets tonight, but I cant be cross with him, he is just fed up of having medicenes posted into him and clamps his jaws shut in protest now

Heres hoping that this set of treatment has some positive effect, I really hope for Taliskers sake that we can get it sorted soon
 
Your vet sounds terrible, I would change vets asap.

Hope you boy feels better soon! (if it is an allergy, which it does not really sound like, try Science Plan H/D Low Allergy)
 
Is Woodmancote too far for you? (by Bishops Cleve) I use Mary Cheslin for everything apart from the horse and she is fab
