I had loads of PM's off people when I mentioned I was taking on a neglected ex-racer, and many people wanted pics, so I thought I'd post a couple here as I can't remember who I promised pics to.

Also, thanks for all the advice people gave me regarding food and lice. You're all stars. xxx

The first one doesn't really do his 'thiness' justice...

This one, taken at a different angle while being bathed, shows his shape a bit better....

He has now been wormed, deloused, and his having several small feeds a day, so keep your fingers crossed for him, and hopefully there'll be some 'after' pics in the near future.

oh bless him, I hope he is looking well soon.

(Now THAT is a thin horse with bones portruding.)

It sounds like you are doing everything right, best of luck with him! xx

How can people let horses get to this state, its heart-breaking

Where did you find him?

Good luck with him Dubs, I sure you will have some pretty amazing after pics in a couple of months.

PS. With the lice concentrate around and under the mane, a friend did a research project on lice distribution and that is where most of them like to be

What a lovely guy he is. Now he to me IS verging on a "rescue case". He looks very much like the mare I bought who had the foal at foot a couple of years ago. You will be amazed at how quickly he will turn around though - these types of horses flourish on kindness and decent grub

. Well actually you probably won't LOL! As you, like me, have done this all before.

Good luck with him and I am looking forward to seeing him again in a month or two's time once he has put on some weight.

Thanks hun.

I used to take in waifs and strays a few years ago, but I only ever had one worse than him, and it took loads of work, time and money(

) to get him right.

I said I would never do it EVER again, and as you can see, I'm a woman of my word...

Now that really is a rescue case, I look forward to seeing how he recovers under your care.

Good God! Poor lad..... good luck with him, hope he piles on the pounds quickly and look forward to seeing the piccies of him looking a little plumper!

He really is a poor looking boy

And you really do take all sorts under your wing Mother (

) I hope you keep us posted on how he gets on. H. xxx

He was at the yard of an aquaintance who dabbles in race horse breeding and has a few point to pointers.
They said that they have had every test under the sun done on him, and nothing has shown up, and we were told to take him and see what we can do with him otherwise he would probably be sent for meat.
Quite frankly - it's a load of bollox.
He had a load of hosses in one field, with one bale of hay in the middle with two fat horses guarding it, and the rest unable to get a sniff of it, looking decidedly ribby.
This horse also has a parrot mouth, and imho, hasn't seen a EDT in years.
Add the huge lice burden into the equation, and I'm guessing that a vet hasn't been anywhere near this horse.
That is up until we made him get the horse vet checked before we took him...

Imho, it is sheer neglect, and nothing less.

Well done for saving him...

Don't despair...it sounds as if you're doing all the right things. Little & often is definitely the way to feed these horses.

Good luck! Let us know how you're getting on.

Hey hun, glad to see you're still with us.

If you take a look at my reply to Lucy, I have just this minute explained how we came by him (saves me typing it out again cos I'm lazy, lol

)

Thanks for the support honey. x

OMG he looks absolutely dreadfull, I feel quite sickened! That is so brilliant of you to take him on.
You dont know what his racing name is do you?

He is in a state isn't he...

I'll certainly try and do my best with him, and you can expect to see lots of updates as I think this is going to be a long haul effort...
Thanks for the support. x
