Tamsyn Hutchins add. in Eventing!!!

she won pony medals on harry hotshot-ud have to be a completely useless not to win a "team" medal riding that!

also she won a team medal in juniors i think...if i recall she is very overated with pushy parents and never excels at europeans - in fact normally under achieves compared to her potential.

also had a bust up with YR selectors who thankfully havent wasted any team places by letting her go.

I am truly shocked by this comment

I haven't seen the advert but good on the girl to promote herself. In the end of the day without the sponsors there won't be much of a sport.

QR - fact: sponsors only back people they think are going to put their product in the public eye. If you get results and are able to mention the product name (or better still a photo showing the logo) in a magazine like H&H, you get more money and/or freebies.

Good on her I say!

Damn clever idea, gets her name about and she will probably have secured more in future sponsorship than the cost of the ad - lets not forget, this isn't the back page of Vogue we're talking about, but the inside front of a magazine with a comparatively small circulation.

Everybody whinges about not getting sponsors in this sport, and yet one of the people with enough initiative to do something about gets slated; you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

she most certainly did not produce harry hotshot!!!!! or tully lane!!!!! [ QUOTE ]

You only get rides on other peoples horses/ponies if you are good enough to attract them in the first place!

Good on her I say. The fact that we are discussing it illustrates its already given her the exposure she was hoping for. Good luck to her!!

I just looked at it and didn't think it was anything untoward, in fact it's a shrewd business move because anyone thinking about placing a horse might be attracted by the ad praising her sponsors.
I have met Tamsyn a few times, she had her horses where my daughter was training, she mucked out three herself, got there very early every morning to manage to ride them all before the schools were busy, and was really helpful to anyone who ever asked her advice.
I think anyone who is intending to be a professional eventer has to treat their profile as a sportsperson does in any other discipline, you have to be noticed and promote yourself.
I think she has spent money to accumulate it, if it gets her just one more sponsor it's probably worth it..

Sorry but I have to respond Olivia, I met her Mum lots of times and she is not pushy in the least!!! That's really not on to say that.
There is a big difference in supporting your offspring and pushing them..
Pushing them is biuying incredibly expensive horses, insisting they compete at the important events and being horrible to them when they lose..
Supporting is spending every damn halfpenny on their training, their horses and transport, and being an unpaid groom/box driver and dogsbody.. believe me I know!
I think perhaps you should retype that comment...

How different is Tamsyns *advert* to one that is published pertaining to a tackshop? Both want money and exposure and backing - nowt wrong with that! I back her 100% for having the business sense to do it

Good on her too! Sorry might have started the bitch by saying people are being mean. But I was wrong I think everyone is jealous. Best of luck to her. Thank god im not the only one who thinks this is a totally pointless post that is trying to put a hard working person down. Especially Olivia person who might I ask how many medals have you won. Sorry I dont event but hope all you nice people out there do well. Try to understand. Trying to not let myself get to that level. ps I have won medals before you ask!! OMG i'm getting as bad as everyone else. (ps not in gymnastics im very clumsy blonde but not stupid) Just out of interest anyone doing the bitching done any better than her?

Well, good for her. As has been mentioned, people are always complaining there isn't enough money coming into the sport but whenever anyone tries anything innovative or even attention getting (which is the point of advertising) some people seem to gripe that it's not the way things are usually done. Again, sort of the point.

These "thank-you" ads are the done thing in the US, especially for the big hunter/jumper barns. Some of them go on for pages, full colour, in glossies like The Chronicle and no doubt cost a good penny but I think the feeling is they're as classy a way as possible to do big advertising while also promoting sponsors, publically thanking clients and generally coming off as reasonably humble, relatively speaking. Everyone knows they're promotion (after all, they often "thank" clients for winning something big) but not quite as tacky as just saying "we're wonderful, ride with us". They also provide proof of success and, as mentioned, give the sponsors another mention.

Riding is an expensive sport - no one doing well is doing it completely without support! I guess it just comes down to what's worth spending the money on. For someone needing immediate results print ads might seem a better investment than buying a horse which may or may not get its name in the news in a few years time. And, of course, there's also the chance she's genuinely grateful to the people who support her. It's also possible the motivating force IS one of her sponsors.

I think the ad is great. The horse featured is Drama Queen, who was bred and produced by a lady at my yard- she has also sent Tamsin Drama Queens cousin-to event and she has had much better results than the previous well known rider. I think its a nice gesture to the owners. Regarding the comment about 'harry hotshoot' you only hav to look at this years pony team - to see most of those riders did not produce their own ponies.

QR-

Firstly, well done to her. She is doing what more event riders should be trying to do and raise their and the disciplines profile. As Weezy implied, there is nothing different between a shops advert and hers. If she paid for it herself, then she is investing money in her future by hopefully bringing in more patrons. If the sponsors paid, then well done for being a good enough competitor and sportsperson for being able to attain the support of some very decent sponsors.

There are a few posts that do stink of jealousy and bitterness. Personally, I can not stand people that can not appreciate another persons hard work and desire to achieve. Pathetic.

If the advert works for her, then give her a hearty handshake and wish her well and if it does not, then move on to other ideas.

This type of advetising is very common in rallying/motorsport magazines. Its nice to thank your sponsors in this way and it will only encourage more in the long run.
Dont know the girl, but good on her to do something a bit different in the horse world. Those slating her are probably just pissed off they didnt think of it first!

The advert has worked well since so many readers are talking about it! All kudos to Tamsyn and her team for taking such an innovative step. I am sure that all those connected with her will feel appreciated, and sad to say in these times that is not as common as it should be. The advert has been extremely well placed and I am sure has not cost an additional premium. This practise is apparently well used in America and works well there. Tamsyn has worked extremely hard and until recently she did not even have a school to work her horses in. Extraordinary results to have achieved, with backbone, determination and talent. I have watched her career closely over the years, and she is a young lady that deserves all her successes and more. it is great to see a rider actively promote her sponsors, and I am sure this move will be well noted within the industry. Certainly I have never noticed other riders take this route to show their gratitude, and it is a positive move to congratulate her on.
