I found my TB shivering this morning despite wearing a 200g TO with neck

Changed to warmer rug (now in a fleece, 100g liner and 350g to with Neck ) and put him back out with a pile of hay. I am now wishing I'd kept him in :( Trouble is he is on a yard 20 miles away (he goes there to live out 24/7 over the summer) so I only get to see him once a day. If I'd have brought him in this morning he wouldn't be seen to again until 3pm tomorrow so didn't think it would be fair on him.

Feel awful now though as the weather has gone even worse since then.

What would you guys do?? I could make the trip back up there this evening and bring him in (would rather not make and extra 40 mile round trip but will if need be) but the earliest I can get to him is 3pm tomorrow - obviously I'd leave him a mountain of hay and enough water!

There is also the risk of me not being able to get there at all tonight/tomorrow if the rain continues as we are prone to flooding so in that case he'd be stuck in....

Gahhh I hate this weather :( :(

If you have fed, and changed rugs, I'm sure he will be fine now. This is due to blow over this evening, and sun is forecast tomorrow! My lost will be stripped naked again first thing in the morning, as it's forecast 17 degrees and they will boil!

Many are in the same boat, you've done what you can, and I'd be happier that he is out, rather than being stuck in all that time, as you are thinking.

:)

He will be fine especially if you gave him some hay too. I think its meant to get up to 17 cent in East Anglia tomorrow so you might have warmer horse etc. Not sure where you are?

I think its just the wet has been rather exceptional seeing as we are in drought. He will be fine and you have put more layers on him(you may be removing them over next few days). Fingers crossed.

Don't worry - he'll still be there this evening.

If it makes you feel better, all mine are out (elderly TB included) in their MW rugs and it's wet and very windy. They stay by the hedge in the worst of it and then venture out for a graze when the weather eases a bit.

I think this is exceptional weather:( Our 2 were cold this morning - they are out 24/7 and were in LWs. The 3yo is TBx but very TB to look at IYSWIM. The oldie is fully clipped but a connie x and very very hardy. They have MWs on and extra haylage. I am pretty confident they will be fine. Yours will be too I am sure. It is only a temp blip in the weather and I guess as long as yours can get out of the wind and can have a break from the rain he will be fine. It has actually stopped here for the moment. Even a short stop in the rain seems to cheer them up and they move around and dry off quite quickly.

Thanks all, you've reassured me a bit. It's great him going to his summer yard (better riding, people to ride with and use of a school) but the weather changing all the time can make it very difficult when I can only see him once a day, during Winter I keep him at home so it's much easier to deal with and obviously easier to keep him in over night!

I think I'll see what the weather is like later this evening, if it's still chucking it down I'll head up to the yard and bring him in for the night.

Not sure if it's even worth trying to get to the yard later, I've only got a little car and my road currently looks like this

I will be fine getting through that but it's what I'd have to face the rest of the way that is worrying me
