and I don't mean your post-xmas waistlines!

I have been happily using the Aerborn girths like this:

as they are elastic on both ends which I like, and are soft to touch, easy to clean etc, but my new saddler sort of turned is nose up at them last week and said that I may want to change the girths but with all that was going on I didn't get around to asking him for recommendations. A physio I had said my horse seemed tight / sore around those muscles between his front legs near the girth (she called them his pecs I think) and I had been looking at girths with wider middles if that makes any sense?

Does anyone have a type of girth that they swear by? Or can you suggest one for a horse who is a bit sensitive to being girthed? I used to use the lovely 3-fold leather ones but really wanted elastic on both ends.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks x

i love my leather atherstone girth, elastic both ends or one end! soft and comfey and shaped for horse, and easy to clean! and last for years and years and you can get them re elasticated at very reasonable cost!

I use virtually the same one as that.I much prefer them to the old fabric ones.I do have an elasticated atherstone (leather) which I used to use on my other horse and that never rubbed and he was a bit of a wuss.

I use a Professionals Choice neoprene girth on my jumping saddle. It is pretty wide (but not shaped at all), very soft as the neoprene is wider than the webbing, and elasticated both ends. I used to use a thorowgood synthetic girth but always liked the look and feel of the Pros choice ones - when I finally got one, the difference in my mare was quite amazing. She started jumping much better, instantly - I never thought it would make that much difference.

Not sure that is any use though - I would probably go back to the saddler/physio and ask what they would recommend.

If your horse is tender between his legs, you may be better off looking for a girth that has the elastic in the centre rather than at the ends.

Some saddlers dont like girths with elasticated ends, as some riders can over tighten them, making the horse uncomfortable, and it also can make the saddle move.

I've always used the wintec elasticated girths, not dissimilar to the one you have linked too. Never had a problem with them, until having my current horse. Even then didn't think I had a issue with the girth, despite saddle moving a bit and some minor face pulling when saddling.

Anyway, was having a saddle fitted and saddler made faces/noises about my girth and was adament I needed to try a professional choice girth. It was £50 and I was skeptical given it didn't look particularly revolutionary! but it has made an amazing difference and is probably the best bit of horse kit I have got in a fair while

I use the pro choice ones- elastic at both ends, removable padding etc.
I do have a couple that are almost the same as the one you have- but they are wider in the middle with a ring for attachments etc.

Good to know about the Prof Choice ones - I had been thinking about one like this:

Is this the one you have?

That's the one I use

My mare started to jump straighter the first time I used it. It's also pretty grippy so if anything I tend to ride with a looser girth than over-tight
