Who's gotten half hour into a hack and realised I've still got my baseball cap on not my riding hat. What an idiot and its not even the first time I've done that. Got off and led him back, surprised me how instantly vulnerable I felt.

I must remember that just because there's a peak above my eyes does not mean I've got my riding hat on, or I'll have to stop wearing baseball caps for safety's sake!

I started having a lesson wearing my baseball cap - even my instructor didn't notice

But yes it's funny how vulnerable you feel once you realise :)

Oh god all the time. I did it last on an ex racer who I was hacking out for the second time and the first time on his own. Luckily he was a very good boy and I was only 150 yards up the road before I realised so it was easy to turn back, but every twitch after you realise makes you nervous. I haven't done it in a while though because after that occasion I got into the habit of patting my head like a loon before I get on - mad hat lady ;)

I've not done this but my young horse got into a habit of rearing so I always lead him in a hat, just in case. done day he'd escaped and I caught him hatless, felt very venerable but now im used to it, as hes getting better!

I had a cracker when my monster spooked tanked off and jumped a 5 bar gate. I fell off, dusted my self off, took my hat and air jacket off and went to get him back out his stable ( where he had decided to go back too).

Took him back into the arena, lunged him, and thought "im not injured so best get back on". 15 mins into the work I realised I hadnt put my hat back on! Idiot!

did your air jacket go off? did it help?

I was in a rush to get on board for a riding lesson some years ago and the only thing that stopped me mounting up with a cap on my head was someone passing by asking me if I was missing something - I had a foot in the stirrup just about to swing up - was horrified when I realised I had no hat on considering I have previousl had a very very serious head injury. Just shows how easy it is

No, you're not the only one, it something I've done more than once, more often in the winter because, of course a woolly hat feels just like a riding hat, right??

I once did a while ride and lead hack (including canter) before realising I didn't have a hat on, I couldn't believe it and was convinced it had fallen off during our ride. But no, it was hanging up in the tack room where I left it!

haha that was the best bit, I was on him for a whole 10 seconds when it happend, so hadnt had a chance to attach it yet! I was really lucky with that one!

Ive had it go off on me once before, But I landed on my tail bone so still got a sore one from it :( I need air-pants :p

But its one of those things, you dont know if you would have been worse off without it or not.
