Following this.
Can anyone tell me how to clean my hat PROPERLY. Not de-odourising sprays etc as I don’t want them resting on my skin.
(I also get also get spots in my hairline from my hat/headbands for scruffy hair)

Dont laugh !!! I put mine in the washing machine 😂😂

I’ve well hijacked this...
No fringe but I have done, scraped back or not is no different.
HOW do you put it in washing machine?
I’ve got a vented skull (stinks) which I could see how I could put it on a trainer wash, but I’ve also got a nice (also stinks) Velvet cap with suedey straps - would the wash not jigger it?

Whenever I got a new hat I would make up a solution of Pevadine in hand hot water and dunk. I had the solution at the pee colour strength. I would leave in for 5-10 mins or so...

I would take out, lightly rinse to get rid of most of it but leave it so some (diluted) solution remained. Then leave to dry somewhere warm but not on a radiator. Out in the sun on a medium/moderate day (as in not 37 degrees that we had earlier this year!) was perfect, or the top of the boiler which is warm but not boiling.

Once it has dried out (a couple of days) it then never gets smelly. I think the remaining Pevadine kills the bacteria. The head band of the hat can look greasy from sun cream, but no smell.

ETA - I don't recommend this, it is just what I have done. I also don't bother with my at home helmet as that only gets worn for up to 2 hrs at a time and has time to dry. Work hat, on the other hand, was worn daily for up to 8 hours, and was gross without that treatment!

I have terrible skin but my forehead is MUCH worse after riding.
However I have recently bought a cream which has helped my skin and now I think about it my forhead hasn't been half as bad after riding. I will try and find the cream and link it.

It does stink abit like garlic so I only use it at night and would only use it on the areas I found troublesome ie. Your forehead. :)
Found it its called:
It is called V55 Max Double strength salicylic acid cream.

I hadn’t ridden for 7months due to box rest so you can imagine even in a hat bag mine was a bit musty, also some specs of fuzz growth on it 😱🤢. Took it home and popped on some marigolds, washed the inside all down with a damp sponge (boiling water) lathered in green fairly liquid(my cure for all!) good few times around with that , let it dry on top of a towel on the radiator and then lightly sprayed with febreze fabric. Tada. Smells great, no irritations either so managed to kill any fuzz growing.

Thanks guys. I think a new hat with liners is my next go to. I am militant about my skincare, as have really sensitive acne prone skin anyway which I've managed to keep at bay...apart from my forehead when I've ridden and gotten particularly sweaty!

I have Very short hair but always end up with sore spots on my scalp if I've worn my hat for a long time, I also get spots on my chin and jaw line where the strap sits.
I wet wipe my head and use one to wipe the inside of my hat and the straps then use a hat deodoriser spray in it. Helps keep my hat a bit fresher but so far not done much for the spots!! 😠
