Tell me/Show me..Welsh X Arabs!

My first pony was out of an ArabxTB mare to a Sect D stallion, Nebo Black Magic. She was just under 14hh and was an absolute star, would jump anything you faced her at and would hack all day and did. She was a bit of a hand full as a three to six year old and seemed to take great pleasure in testing me but she was the best pony/horse I have ever ridden and I still miss her. She was PTS over ten years ago at the age of 23 when she developed arthritis and lost her sight. Still have her one and only foal who was 20 on the 16th July this year to a TB stallion. Not a patch on her mum but just as beautiful!!

I've known one, and he was fantastic. But then every arab cross I've known has been fantastic, and every pure arab I've known has been fantastic, so I could be a little biased

Indeed Faract, she'll be off to visit Tobago next Spring if everything goes to plan !

Oooh I've admired him for ages, just can't decide whether I want to breed from mine or not but if I did it would be to him! I've found all arabs and arabs crosses to be highly intelligent and responsive, I guess they're a work with sort of breed, I shouldn't imagine you'd get very far trying to force your opinion on one but then the ones I've known have been so willing that there's no need

I have a lovely chestnut mare. Quite shy and a little nervous but a really nice pony with a sensible head on forward going shoulders.

I'm excited on your behalf already! :D :D :D

Lol thankyou. I've always liked the cross and think he will compliment my mare well.
Just interested to see and hear about other people's horses of this cross! Funnily enough there was one at the college I went to that looked like my mare but just bigger and with a slightly dished face. Beautiful mare and put together lovely, nice type.
Early days yet, am trying to contain my excitement until she's scanned successfully in foal as she may not take etc!

Thankyou for the replies so far everyone. This is my mare who will hopefully be giving me my very own Welsh x Arab...

Rufty is a Welsh Arab cross and he is the nicest horse I have ever had. He has a wonderful temperament, bomb proof and forward going. He looks quite Araby but has the native toughness.

My riding friend also has a gelding with similar breeding and he is just the same, lovely to handle and a joy to ride

I rate Arab crosses very highly. Had an Arab x NF for 33 years and he was exceptional, he never seemed to run out of ability. I would put the Welsh x Arab slightly above the NF cross even which is very high praise.
I also really like H Tobago so you are on to a winner there. You should end up with an exceptional all rounder, very sound and with a big personality. My Arab X NF was sharp, opinionated, brave. Big fan here!

I had an arab x welsh on loan. He was a very level headed boy despite being very young and green. I could do anything with him, and he was quite spooky but I put that down to his greenness, I think he would have turned out to be a brilliant horse. He was forward going but safe, and responsive to his rider.

Also had a beautiful Arab x NF on loan too who turned out to be my horse of a lifetime!

I love H Tobago, good choice!

They're my favourite!!!! We've had 5. Ranging from 13hh-15hh.

All of them have talent, flair, personality but a sensible head. Willing to learn, great all rounders. I have NEVER met a bad one :) :) :)

My first pony was a Welsh B x arab. He was more of a second pony type really, a 13.2 palomino. Beautiful pony, basically very like your mare but a bit finer. He didn't have a dished nose at all. I think this is a great pony cross. He was a great pony, could be very stroppy when he wanted, but was a great allrounder, did great flatwork and loved XC. No pics on the computer as its 30 years ago now, will try and scan some on later.

My horse of a lifetime was an arab x welsh! I am ALWAYS window shopping for another! She was amazing and my soulmate:)

Here is my girly, she doesn't look 24 I don't think. She is such a careful jumper, not the most scopey but we did do well up to newcomers, but she hated to touch a pole.

I had one in my teens, welsh d x arab, total fruitloop, we still have him or rather my mum does, now in his late twenties and still a handful. Wasn't considered sellable. He had plenty of ability to jump and could have affiliated easily. We had a connie x arab mare by the same stallion who had a completely different temperament, completely laid back.

I will add a photo later, but I own an arab x tbx welsh (arab x welsh stallion & anglo arab mare) and she is phenomenal.

Just a shade under 15hh chestnut mare but not mareish at all. She is 17 now but you wouldnt know it. Tough as old boots. She has:

Done endurance up to FEI level
Will happily pop a 2'6" course either SJ and XC. Has scope to do more but was stopped by my cowardice.
Will put in a reasonable dressage test but its not my thing.
Western trained - a great trail horse!
Done a bit of showing
LOTS of hacking, pub rides, beach rides etc.

Just a fabulous horse who can turn her hoof to anything. She's currently on loan so I can concentrate on my very full time job, part time MA and trying to get my pure bred arab FEI level as well. I don't half miss her.

If you're interested, you can find her on all brreds pedigree: Minnismoor Mistique

I love the arab x native. You generally get a very tough, smart, hardy pony/horse who can turn their hooves to pretty much anything you ask of it. As much as I love the arab, I will probably get another part-bred when it's time to look again.

Please tell me about them and what they're like! :biggrin3:

It was knowing this superstar, an advanced endurance horse that I competed for my friend:

That softened me up for getting my own welshie araby pone:

(OK so Wolf has a dash of saddlebred in there too)

Welsh/arab makes a darned good cross :)

(ArabianGem, I haven't seen your amazing mare's pedigree before. She's actually a bona fide British Riding Pony I think as she is a welsh/arab/TB mix. Can't believe she's 17 now though. Mind you Spud is 16 - scary!)
