First of all thank you all for posting the good and the bad stories of your horses and their recoveries. It really was an insight as to what to expect and also that each is an individual.
After getting kicked from high spirits walking in hand during box rest, my vet and i decided to take her recovery to the field and possibly do less of an injury to herself in the stable, kicking block walls etc in frustration.
She will have been out mostly 24/7 tomorrow and just thought i would update on her progress. A quick recap, she came in from the field with a small cut that didnt seem so deep, no heat, no swelling and no lameness. Immediately put her on antibotics from vets advice and kept clean. Was still being ridden and content, that was a sunday, on the Friday when going to muck out her leg at swollen enormously. Rushed to vets who gave her a huge dose of antibiotics and painkillers and advised to continue bathing. Sunday she turned and snapped up her leg and was crippled. Rush to vets and had an emergency op to start flushing the tendon sheath!!!!
6 days in the vets, with intensive and aggressive treatment (goodness knows the bill!). Prognosis still hung in the balance as tendon sheaths do not heal well, she was walking sound which was a bonus, still lame in trot.
As i like holistic therapies, i had put her on herbs (global herbs) and researched the ingredients listed and was quite amazed. She couldnt be injected (she is far too dangerous)so it was up to her to fight to get better. I also found a great product which is meant to increase heat and promote circulation (which is what vet wanted, no cold treatment) and also a magnetic boot and i cannot believe it.
She was doing handstands yesterday and playing in the field which i though ooohhh noooo! This morning all fluid that had accumlated and thickening i though may be scar tissue has disappeared, its a normal leg and doing normal things!
Vet says if she continues to improve like that she will be back riding in 2-3 weeks!!
Please keep all crossed shes a fighter and continues her miraculous recovery. From being told it was soo bad she was a 'shoot job' i am more than happy she is happy and nearly sound.
Also as she done this injury in the field and i would like to prevent anything further, can anyone tell me are premiere equine boots goods?

Shouting as mums horse just left for a hack!

Glad she's on the mend!

My boy had an old tendon injury which blew up with me again 3 years ago, it's his off front rather than the rear but i bought him the PE air flow boots all round. For daily turnout he's never without the fronts and if its muddy/slippy he has the backs on too.

They never over heat and i find the material gives real support aswell, mine took a couple of times to shape to his legs but after that fit amazingly well, no rub marks either. They seem to support the whole structure of the tendon (not sure if this is actualy possible but seems like it) because they are quite long boots (mines a leggy TB and they are long on him).

I know you will get the boot haters who say if a horse cant walk without boots then its useless anyway (or something like that!) but if they work for your horse then i see no problem. Mine is only turned out in boots or if doing fast/jump work as i like to leave him without when hacking schooling generally so they do strengthen without the boots.

Sorry for the long reply and hope its of help!

No thank you i really appreciate the response. Its good to hear what works for other people and ive never had a horse that has ever had to wear boots out. But she seems so accident prone! Can i ask how long you would turn out for at a time wearing them?
Just when i rang PE to ask their opinion they said the turnout boots as mine are turned out around 10hrs a day and need someting that wont heat up.

It varies but the longest is about 7 hours. Mine are about 3 years old and are quite a breathable material, i wonder if the material has now changed or if the leather ones may be more breathable?

I also looked at the Dalmar ones when they first started selling them but they were just so pricey and not sure if they were any different to the PE ones.

Hope you find what works for you

I have the PE turnout boots for my boy who's recovering from a check ligament injury and I'm very impressed with them so far. They fit nicely, don't slip, don't rub and seem to be good quality, plus you can chuck them in the washing machine when they get dirty :) The Premier Equine facebook page also has a 10% discount code.
