First of all thank you all for posting the good and the bad stories of your horses and their recoveries. It really was an insight as to what to expect and also that each is an individual.
After getting kicked from high spirits walking in hand during box rest, my vet and i decided to take her recovery to the field and possibly do less of an injury to herself in the stable, kicking block walls etc in frustration.
She will have been out mostly 24/7 tomorrow and just thought i would update on her progress. A quick recap, she came in from the field with a small cut that didnt seem so deep, no heat, no swelling and no lameness. Immediately put her on antibotics from vets advice and kept clean. Was still being ridden and content, that was a sunday, on the Friday when going to muck out her leg at swollen enormously. Rushed to vets who gave her a huge dose of antibiotics and painkillers and advised to continue bathing. Sunday she turned and snapped up her leg and was crippled. Rush to vets and had an emergency op to start flushing the tendon sheath!!!!
6 days in the vets, with intensive and aggressive treatment (goodness knows the bill!). Prognosis still hung in the balance as tendon sheaths do not heal well, she was walking sound which was a bonus, still lame in trot.
As i like holistic therapies, i had put her on herbs (global herbs) and researched the ingredients listed and was quite amazed. She couldnt be injected (she is far too dangerous)so it was up to her to fight to get better. I also found a great product which is meant to increase heat and promote circulation (which is what vet wanted, no cold treatment) and also a magnetic boot and i cannot believe it.
She was doing handstands yesterday and playing in the field which i though ooohhh noooo! This morning all fluid that had accumlated and thickening i though may be scar tissue has disappeared, its a normal leg and doing normal things!
Vet says if she continues to improve like that she will be back riding in 2-3 weeks!!
Please keep all crossed shes a fighter and continues her miraculous recovery. From being told it was soo bad she was a 'shoot job' i am more than happy she is happy and nearly sound.
Also as she done this injury in the field and i would like to prevent anything further, can anyone tell me are premiere equine boots goods?
Shouting as mums horse just left for a hack!
