I posted about this a couple of weeks ago! My terrier bitch had puppies and it's now 2 weeks since the last one has gone. She was a bit of a nightmare as I live with my dad in an apartment but it's on the ground floor so we were able to open and shut the door and she could come and go.
She is grand with other dogs and around people except for this one dog. His owner is american and has a hissy fit everytime he walks by us. I try and keep the door locked but sometimes the weather is so nice and such a shame to not open the door to let air in.

Anyways he's just walked by and Tot was sitting by the door and raced out. She runs up to the dog and growls at him but is a lot better behaved than she was a couple of weeks ago. She's a bit bold and has selective hearing but I can generally call her and get her to come to me. He started shouting at me saying that this was happening every day and that he wasn't having it. Now she doesn't do it every day. It happens about 3 times a week and he walks by twice a day every day. I just don't know what to do because I keep apologising and I do try to keep her in but I am obviously just not doing enough :(
 
Hang on, so she's running up your garden, which I presume is enclosed? Whats the problem? She's protecting your property and he's being a bit of an idiot if he expects owt else!! So long as she comes back to you then its fine :)
 
No it's not enclosed, so I guess it public land as lots of people seem to walk by. I usually have to go and get her and the guy just stands there like a gombeen. If he kept walking it wouldn't be a problem.
As fas as I can see I am in the wrong here....it's just very frustrating and it gets me down.
 
We tried the squeaky toy and it worked for awhile, not anymore! Such a nuisance but I think I will get the cable tie and see if she behaves any better.
 
Yeah i would probably be annoyed if your dog was doing that to me and my dog 3 times a week.

I think you either need to keep a leash on her or get a tie out or some kind of gate to go over the door.
 
I also agree with KLH, I would be annoyed if I passed somewhere with my dog and another was making a right old racket followed by the owner shouting, it's not really pleasant.
Can you not ask the gentleman to help you, ask him to pass at certain times when you are ready and work together to stop the behaviour , you could either stand at the end where he passes and use a deterrant, pistol, alarm, and "IN" or ask him to do it, she is obs getting on both of your nerves and you are probably going to get complaints.
Otherwise practice calling her in randomly using a que, whistle and treat, so u dont have to ball and shout u can just whisltle for her.
Or a splash collar, so u can try and give a negative association when she is in motion making all the noise.

Is it jsut this one person she is doing it to?
 
Yes just the one person. I don't think he would help to be honest. I thought I had his times twigged and made sure that she was in and majority of the time I was right and then just yesterday morning I made the stupid mistake of just letting her out and he came round the corner and then this afternoon. Usually he walks in the morning and evening.

Oh I know it's my fault and she is improving but it's just going to take time and with me just being more attentive.

I just took her for a walk and we met two dogs and she said hello but wasn't really bothered about them. I have gotten a lunge line and she is now tied up to that!!
 
Oh and I don't shout at her, I call her but I don't shout!!! He's the one that shouts.

We tried socialising them but she was a brat and kept growling.
 
I've got one of those compressed air aerosols which is good for checking unwanted behaviour, then when you've interrupted the behaviour you don't want you can reward the behaviour you do!

I find it particularly good is you're in a conflict situation with another dog (like my two -v- next-doors). It just stops the conflict dead and gives you time to check the behaviour and reward the dog when it responds to you.l
 
A terrier in an unfenced garden,where she reared her very own pack..bad,bad news!Either fence it pronto,or use a running line that does`nt reach the walkway. No dog should be in an uncontrolled space,it is not fair on every one else.
 
Oh I didn't know EK!!!

I have her on the end of a lunge line which is tie to some garden furniture(the metal type so it can't move)!!! It doesn't reach the walkway and will see if that works.

I will also try and keep a bottle of water handy so that when she does misbehave I can spray her and hopefully her behaviour will get better.
 
Well no wonder the gentleman is annoyed ! So would anyone be ,dogs rushing out at passers by or dogs/horseriders..sorry not on and ALWAYS the owner`s fault. Think how you would feel yourself if it were the other way `round!?
 
EK I know it's my fault as I have stated a couple of times. I am only looking for advice. I have never been in a situation like this before as I've never lived in an apartment with a dog!! I've always had a garden.

The terrier doesn't actually rush out at anyone else bar this one guy. Also I have been in the other persons shoes when I had a problem with a neighbours dog who kept rushing out at me and nipping my horses legs and when I went to talk to them politely I got told to get stuffed and that I shouldn't be riding my horse on the road, also when I contacted the guards they said that nothing could be done.
