Tests came back!!!

I can't believe that the Yard owner ( Or other liveries for that matter ) has not DEMANDED that the horse is on box rest ( I mean total box rest, not just not allowed out in her field but allowed anywhere else )

No wonder you seem to have a new question everyday... Seems like you are on a yard with total divs!!

I really hope that you manage to sort this out without anyone elses horses catching it. I also really am not being nasty to you, if you have no experience with it, you arn't to know, but it really makes me angry that others who should be more experienced around you have not made you realise the seriousness of it. Such a shame, as you get a real leathering on here most days for the new dilemma you have of that day and really it's the people you see every day should be helping / correcting you with this type of thing :(

A good alternative. I would be most unhappy were an infected horse in the school, though, as most school are inevitably wooden and the owner would have to use the door.

I would say no, ringworm is not serious in terms of not deadly, but highly inconvenient for owners who would be unable to exercise their horse if it spreads. I don't see why someone would risk that.

I'm not hysterical, just in disbelief that the OP seems to have zero clue.
 
I would lunge a horse with ringworm, being careful that it did not rub up against anything etc. Heck if it only had a little patch on its bum or something I'd hack it out as long as it wasnt interferring with tack or anything. There is such a thing as being over cautious in my mind, yes its contagious but if you have an ounce of common sense its also easily killed and contained...without the need for mass hysteria. Correct me if I'm wrong but we aren't talking about a horse covered from head to toe in ringworm with bits falling off here are we?! She has a small patch of ringworm on her side....

no my mum is annoyed at the cost of shavings as shes staying in ,shes just payed over £200 for rubber matts so i dont want to push my luck
 
I haven't replied to any of this OP's posts but read them all with trepidation as to what each day's dramas are going to be.

Personally I don't believe that anyone who owns a horse can be quite so naieve, even as a teenager, and know so little, i'm sure the OP is quite often on the windup and thrives off of the arguments/debates her posts cause :rolleyes:

im looking for help but just get shouted at and i stick up for my self like anyone else would ok?

Too funny! Rude? Because I said you have no idea? Then stop coming up with a new dilemma every day, talk to your yard owner or your vet instead of a bunch of strangers. Obviously, you are going to get varying answers because we are a diverse bunch.

Regardless of what one person says, the next person will have a different opinion: this is called 'real life'.

Your horse has an infectious disease. It is your responsibility to ensure no transfer to other horses, even if another horse was the original source.

For everyone who gets stressed at the op, just don't bother giving your advice. Lot's of peoples posts get lost on here because of these types of threads and it's a shame as some people really do want your advice. :rolleyes:

OP. you are welcome to use or ignore peoples advice. I am putting it down to maturity as to the content of your posts. You cannot blame people who jump on you tho when they think you are doing the wrong thing for your horse inspite of their advice.

I think your y/m should be helping you with how to manage ebs at the moment.

Not everyone who disagrees with how you are doing things is out to get you so please don't get defensive.

As an adult, if I were on your yard, I would look out for you and how you manage ebs. Please take care of her now you know she has spavin. Ebs seems like a very genuine little mare and I wouldn't be suprised if she jumps her heart out for you even if she is in a slight discomfort. Spavin is something that needs to be monitored very carefully. I know as my old boy had it. Feel free to pm me if you ever need any advice.

As for the ringworm, agree with martlin, listen to what your vet advises, but as others have said you have to be extra careful with what she comes into contact with.

:rolleyes: no they wouldnt have because its not neccessary as long as she is not having direct contact with other horses or rubbing on posts/anything where others can catch it and you are thoroughly washing your hands after touching it and anything else like rugs/grooming kit that have come into contact with it. That was your vets advice I'm guessing?

OP, maybe you should be thinking about ringworm in this way - headlice :D
Sure, they aren't life threatening, and treatment is pretty easy, but it can take a while to make sure you're in the clear. In the mean time, even if you are treating your headlice, you wouldn't go around waving your hair about would you :p

I personally would be livid if someone gave my horses ringworm by ignoring contamination risks... or gave me lice :p
 
Yea so as others have said...follow your vets advice to the letter, and it will be fine. Just use common sense about managing it and it will soon clear up and I'm sure you wont contaminate anyone elses horse!
 
I really don't think it's BSJA...'s fault... I genuinely think that she is naive and her parents went and bought her a horse and have just let her get on with it...

I don't want to start a whole new row, ( as funny as your posts are ) but have you ever considered moving Ebs to a more professional yard where you can get more proper help and advice ( or even a yard when the yard owner is not a total d!ck and realises what he / she should enforce in instances like this )

It's great that your mum has got you rubber matts... Hopefully now your mucking out time will be less, and your bedding cheaper :) I just hope your stable is not on the wonk, or the next dillema will be that you have pee puddles at the front of your box and the horse is standing in it! haha

Yes i did jump her 4foot ok? :) and i know my horse pretty well to know she wouldt of done it if she was in pain , i know when some thinks not right even if someone else thinks shes looks fine so please stop telling me off for jumpngi her 4foot and

OP- not having a go sweety. Spavin changes as it develops so just be aware that ebs might not be able to manage those size jumps one day.

Horses sometimes rush their fences and jump higher over them as flexing the hock can become uncomfortable.

Some horses never have a problem with them but as you love your little mare I know you will keep a close eye on her.

Yeh i know i understand that and she will be retired to a lightworking or maybe a bit of simple low level dressage

i wouldt jump her if i knew she was in pain :/
 
Is this the forum for Horse and Hound or Horse and Pony??? Its like being at a nasty boarding school. Goodness me there are some stressy people on this forum tonight. I wish everyone's ages were shown (or thereabouts!!) as we would probably find that half the advice givers are at school or college too! Yes the OP is a teenageer, obviously! As an instructor I've met a million people like her over the years. Some people come on here for company too. The way people speak to each other on here is disgraceful. I wonder who brought half of you up! If you don't like the topic, and obviously for some of you, the OP, go and get your claws into something else on the forum! Yes people are giving sensible advice, and its not always being taken immediately, but its not life or death. When I worked on hunting yards half the horses that hunted came down with strangles or ringworm at some point due to inconsiderate horse owners. We don't all live in a textbook. Give your advice, as politely as possible (its much more likely to be taken that way...) and if they don't take it thats their problem.
