Was at the yard this evening, merrily mucking out and looked out the door across to the bridle path and saw a 3 ponies and 2 were riderless, thought it was strange, then a girl came running up the drive to say one of the horses in the field had its leg caught in the fence, i grabbed a headcollar and a few carrots and shouted my oh and shot off.

I opened the field gate and then saw my friends horse was flat out on the floor, i shouted to my oh to go get wire cutters, the wire was wedged between the underneath of his shoe and foot, he was laid very still and not struggling at all just had quite laboured breathing.
I couldnt move the wire at all and was trying to wiggle it out but couldnt, so the girl got hold of his foot and pulled it one way as i pulled the wire backwards, finally it came free. I moved around the other side of him away from his legs and said just let him get his breathe back.

He then started to try to get up and somehow im not sure how he got his other foot over the wire, thankfully he was a good boy and didnt panic, i carefully put a headcollar on him so i could keep him still I was really worried as the wire was round his fetlock this time, he was very good again and he was soon free and none the worse for his ordeal. He has the tiniest little nick on his leg.
Think i aged 10 years in five minutes, he was very lucky but a very good boy for staying so calm and the carrots helped!!

well done you too.

That reminds me of the 1st Clydie mare we had. We'd only had her 3 weeks when my dad drove past the field she was in and noticed that she was picking one foot up and putting it down over and over while watching the car. Dad went to investigate and found that she had her front foot stuck on the wire, she had some how managed to get her feather stuck! Dad cut her free and there was no harm done. We have always marvelled that she was clever enough to recognise the car at some distance and let him know that there was a problem.
Thank goodness yours was so sensible!
