Having had a lovely ride this morning I go to turn my boy out in his field, and find one of his three field mates hogging the entrance. Usually they move away if I flap a lead rope at them but today this one refused to budge. Rather stupidly I thought I'd be able to get my boy round this one and opened the gate, got him half in .........and then all hell broke loose.
My lad whipped round, knocking me flat on my back in the mud, I let go of the gate and all three horses went dashing out into the yard
. My lad took the opportunity to have a jolly good roll
In this melee someone gave me a hefty kick to the back of the head and biffed my nose, which is not the sort of nose that bends easily. It is now even larger than usual
I have however spent the rest of the day offering up thanks that I was still wearing my crash hat when all this happened
as I'm convinced that if I hadn't at the very least I would have been knocked out, and possibly worse. I know its not practical to wear a crash hat at all times round horses, but it made me think a bit..........
