Talk about stereotyping
Spent 3 days at a horse camp over the weekend ring a lovely little rising 5 mare.
Whilst leaning on fence watching a jumping lesson a couple of ladies started chatting.
Conversation went like this.....
Lady "are you just here as support team?"
Me "No, I was jumping in the session before this one"
Lady "Were you riding the coloured horse?"
Me "yes"
Lady "Not for sale is she?"
Me "not a chance"
Lady "You ride her really beautifullly. Hope you dont mind me asking, you're not gay are you?"

Yes I'm male, yes I can ride a decent level of flatwork, yes I prefer to use technique rather than brute strength when I ride
NO THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME GAY!!!!!!!!

Do have to admit though, SJ instructor commented that mare works in a very pretty way and that I ride her nicely but I need to find some agression in her for jumping.
Ho Hum, perhaps I should switch disciplines :o

Haha! Brilliant!

At least you didn't take it too seriously. Would love to see some photos of your horse though, she sounds a treat!

I used to play hockey and rugby in uni and i got asked that all the time!
Got quite paranoid about it at one point!

Oh dear PM..you completely missed the signals....and a chance....

Next time a woman wants to query your sexuality...think about WHY she was asking that question

And if you like what you see, ask for her number! Straight single men are a rare and cherished creature in the equine world. Make the most of it!!

Think my wife of 20 years might have something to say about that ;)

Oh my life, ANY crystals will give it away - does the purple match your tie and handkerchief ?? match with the browband, and you'll be just about there.

Pink crystals - and this is on a butch horse.

Very funny, how rude though that she thought she could even say that to you!!!

Regarding the aggression for jumping - I'd change instructor!! The way you describe your riding sounds fab, don't change it.

It's a first? And you've been riding how many years?

Didn't you know that ALL men who ride (especially those who are seen in breeches or jodhs) are gay???? I've read it on here so it must be true! :p

My husband keeps telling me otherwise, but it must be an elaborate ruse to enable him to remain in the closet ;)

Haven't got any of me doing flatwork. These are from jumping session where I had to insist she really went forward (think hunting pace). :o

Actually the stereotype is either gay or married. Much easier to fish asking if your gay than married! LOL! Good looking men that can ride in horse sport are snapped up rather quickly! So compliment really.

I had to agree with instructor. He meant aggression as in her attacking the fences instead of her her laid back attitude. Spent some time over grids really pushing forward and the change in her was impressive :D

Another vote for the lady checking you out! Straight men that ride (nicely especially!) are pretty rare and we all want one! I found mine.:)

My husband gets approached on a fairly regular basis. He is a very macho, blokey looking bloke. He gets quite upset about it. He does have a fabulous butt and he's very fit.

His favourite reply is - I am a happily married man !

My dad was approached a few years ago - his fault. He was pushing a tolley around Sainsbury's wearing his chaps.

Lovely! Not as lovely as that photo of you butt as you elegantly dismounted over a fence though :D

I'd take it as a compliment - you're clearly too good to be true ;) :D
