Or try to. There is a space in the grass liveries mares coming up. Its mild and my mare is now overweight again. I really really could do with her living out for the obvious financial reasons but she has been such a madam I haven't pushed it with her.

Anyway, my YO, who knows my mare really well, is going to try. Any signs that my mare is going to try to attack another horse or won't settle and she will be in again so please keep your fingers crossed.

I am not anti living out at all either btw - had a previous horse who I bought back unexpectedly and he had to live out. With proper rugging and feed he looked considerably better at the end of winter then when I bought him back (and cried when I saw him as well).

Wish me luck!

Why are you concerned about your mare attacking others???? that would really upset me if i was on grass livery where your mare intended to join and i found your post.

I worded that too strongly. She doesn't kick or bite, but she does like her own space and will chase off others from near her. Previously she tends to form close relationships in larger herds and ignore everything else (think watching from the sidelines). She has only been out with one other horse since I had her home some 3 years ago, so worried about the strong rankings in the existing herd. However, YO knows her well as well as the behaviour of the Alpha mare already there, so any sign it won't work and my mare will be straight out.

Well in my experience of introducing new horses to a herd... They will likely stay well away from her at first as they will be wary and then gradually get to know her and the squeals will start as they assert their ranks. Someone is always the boss of someone else but rarely have I seen fights. Mares particularly don't fight really.
