The agility thread

Ah no more black dogs allowed here, we can’t find them when it’s dark (I’m not kidding)!

She looks pretty big - is she purebred or an added extra in there?!
She’s tiny. 42cm tall, 8kg. She’s a border whippet with a tiny bit of staffy in her (8%) . She’s mostly BC but acts and looks very whippet! Which apparently doesn’t suit me 🙈😂

Oh a border whippet is kind of on my ‘next dog’ list! 😊 nice size too, Rew is about 52cm and people are constantly surprised he jumps large.

Well let me know if you see a litter! I’m not really looking until next year but can always be tempted! I’m in Devon, and want a bitch.

I very rarely see anything close. Lot's of Lurchers with Greyhound, Bull breeding, Wheaton, Bedlington.

It surprises me that they are not more commonly bred tbh, I imagine they would be snapped up quickly by sport homes.

She’s very small for a BW as her sire is small, most of them tend to be BC size or taller esp if bred for sports.
They mostly breed them for flyball, over in the UK and US. I’ve seen quite a few litters advertised on FB , the sports-mix page is a really good one to be on. Shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Just seen a skewbald bitch puppy for sale, mum is IG x whippet, sire is 3/4 IG (don’t know what the other 1/4 is bit he looks like a whippet), just 20 miles from my home…

I was trying to talk myself into having something less influenced by the weather though… !
There was a whippet running here in the pouring rain , I’ve never seen a dog so unimpressed 😂

IG’s make whippets look cheerful and robust 🤣🤣

Well done Ziggy! I will cocktail sausage him next week. 😁

I was meant to be visiting large dog's dad's breeder (that's a mouthful) today but called it off as the weather looked terrible for a long trip. Anyone competing today is mad but now I get to sit at home and stalk MM and my pupils.

We went out today as not competed for ages due to very stressful house move. Considering I was a complete hindrance they didn't do too bad. Special one was fab, nailed contacts but ran past the last but 1 jump which was the seesaw. I could not get there at all. 🙈 Had a 5 in the combined jumping then a nice clear for unplaced second.

Pebs the Snowflake was sticky in agility but nailed the tricky stuff, then a clear in jumpimg plus a win albeit with a pesky timefault.

Judge was lovely and reminded me it helps if I tell the girls where to go 😂 He was right! I was allover the place. Housemoving on ones own is not easy 😢 leaving home of 35 years tough.

I went to a show last month the day after having our 37 year old pony pts. I probably shouldn't have gone as my head was a mess but didn't want to be at home . We had some awful runs, and like you in one class the judge did quietly say to me that I had sent him to the wrong jump and got us eliminated.

Well agility wins definitely like buses, he won another class yesterday, then 2nd when running in an absolute downpour, with the added distraction of the Red Arrows flying over ! So pleased with him, bless him he shook himself on the start line before setting off and was like a little drowned rat when we finished.

What a good lad. I heard the big rumble of the Red Arrows but was too late getting outside to see them!

We had a quiet weekend as training five days this week (let it never be said that I didn’t put the hours in with this one 😮‍💨) and I need to start shopping and packing for Lune. Running orders are out, 101 dogs in small champ.

Im trying to find the nerve to enter our first 'proper' show but between me not being mentally very great at the moment, some naff training sessions and training being cancelled I'm not sure it's wise. I know I need to swallow the frog at some point but it all feels a bit scary 🙈

Can someone remind me of how faults are awarded in weaves? I have a feeling that if your entry is okay but you pop out once you get a 5, if you come out three times is that an E? If your entry is wrong ie you go in o. The second weave that’s a 5, again if you make another two faults in the weaves is it an E? I’ve always been hazy on weave faults!

We have had an excellent day at Blackdown AC, I had 3 x E because I just wanted to keep going through the weaves even if they were rubbish, then picked up a third in agility c1-2.

Just grit your teeth and go for it. Just tell everyone it is your first time and I am sure they will help you. I can still remember my first 'proper' show back in 2000. I was terrified, think I had an E in jumping and a 5 in helter-skelter. Well and truly hooked after that and still going now in my 70's, just a lot slower.

Why don't you try an independent show first ? Agillidogz near Holmes Chapel (just off M6 junction 18) is a lovely friendly show with fully fenced rings.

Weave faults honestly still confuse me but IIRC there's a distinction between incorrect entries (which are refusals, marked as 5r each time, three of those and you're eliminated) and errors after a correct entry, for which a maximum of 5 faults is given (so they can only incur a single 5f following a correct entry).

Thank you, I wish I could make this stick in my head!

I managed the threadles but flung my hand up for the tunnel at 9 and sent him over the back of 4 instead, and then at 15 had a hell of a time convincing him not to pick up the wrong end of the weaves, took a good five or six attempts. Did manage a clean run on the second go but it was steady and a bit scrappy. One of those courses with zero breathing room.

Large dog did a fab job today - new venue, new trainers, new dogs, barely a peep out of her. Plenty of poles down as usual but some good work otherwise.
