The agility thread

Our first outdoor show and 2 long days. Both went better today than yesterday which surprised me. They managed an agility win apeice sadly with penalties but went well. Pebs agility win over a very tricky 4/5 was brilliant even with 5 pens for DW. Over the large, int, med and small there were only 5 clears so super proud of her. I let pup down when we were a sure fire clear win as she had more energy than me! She still won but am kicking myself!

We did 3 days at Bolesworth this weekend, its luckily very local to me . Ziggy decided in a few classes that 10 weaves was the way to go which was frustrating, but he managed a few clears and had a 2nd and 2 x 4ths which qualified him for the Superstars final on Sunday evening. We were first to run with a big crowd watching, which was nerve wracking, then the timer wouldn't work so we were on the line for ages but when we eventually got going he did a lovely run which a lot of people seemed to think was clear (and it seems to be on the video) but unfortunately we got 5 faults. But heyho, he came 3rd and even with a clear would only have moved to 2nd so just one of those things. It was a very long day though, left the venue at 9.30 pm.

Pishing it down at Vision today, they’ve just removed tunnels from all courses. Large dog actually showing a modicum of self preservation so we’ll continue for now.

She had a third on Saturday (with 10f) and I’ve actually been really impressed with her contacts, startlines and queuing behaviour - it’s just poles that keep coming down.

No report on small dog, except that he’s enjoyed himself. 😏

ETA: Last two runs were batshit so I take it back!

FGS just been sent videos of the last two runs and they were indeed batshit but she didn't have a single pole, despite repeating some sequences. 🫠

Small dog has redeemed himself a bit with some clears.

Still got G1-3 at DSD to go on Wednesday and then a session with Sam on Sunday to sort us out again. She will have her work cut out 😂

I think i saw you around the rings at vision, mainly when you were trying to stay out of the way of the busy areas with your big dog.
Well done for the progress . Sounds like lots of positives.
I'm glad they took the tunnels out. Naylors non slip, and many dogs slipping badly. Maybe there's no such thing as non slip when it's wet??

Got another Jumping win today. This time in combined G5-7!!
Very proud of my relatively new to grade 5 dog.
My goal for the weekend was to get round a 5-7 course without getting eliminated, and he's ended up with 3 clears. I am overjoyed and positive going forwads, but in no hurry to reach Grade 6 too quickly. I need to settle in to this level and bit more first!

That is fab, what a massive confidence boost, well done!

Dog Sports Derby for thr steeplechase this morning to get more ring time. Lots of homework to do but I'm really proud of both of them. No clears and both checked on the audience at times (its the busiest venue we've been to) so something to think about moving forward for now in terms of looking for netted rings until they're 100%. Some really great moments from them both though 🥰

Agillidogz independent shows have netted rings . Just off M6 at junction 18 .

Mine went like a bull in a china shop at DSD this week but I love it as a venue, never have to worry about queuing or ringside dogs. I can't recall which end of Shropshire you are but Vision is also fenced (mix of permanent and netting).

Full day training with Sam in glorious weather yesterday, home with pleasantly tired dogs having either competed or trained 6 days out of the last 8 which is a bit mad. Great work from both.

Large dog managed to act like a normal social dog all day and even had a lovely relaxed walk with my friend’s dogs, the male of which was glued to her chuff for a lot of it but she didn’t care a jot.

Woken up this morning to find I’d managed a sunburn on my arms. In April!

Excellent results - well done 😄

Back from the schipperke fun day, frozen and windburnt. The following day at the Bernese Club's spring garden party we upheld small dog honour with a clean sweep in the agility for a second year running, 5 places for 5 schipperkes. They'll stop inviting us at this rate 😅

Worcester next for qualifiers with small dog, couple more training days booked, then before we know it it'll be Lune.

Had this up for course running night, surprisingly unproblematic. Needed to check commitment from 5 to 6 before you pegged it beyond the dog walk, and some of the larger or faster dogs struggled with the back of 7. Some managed to layer the A frame which was very cool.

Looks tricky! Don’t think I’d beat mine around the DW to threadle slice 7!

If you headed off down the DW too soon to try and get up to 7 a lot of them were bypassing the tunnel entrance at 6 and following the handler, if you hung back to support that then they'd come in across the face of 7. It's a great test of commitment to the two backsides.

Threadles are where the dog takes the non-obvious side of a jump, with the dog's path between the handler and the jump. They make an s-shape on the course, like threading a needle. This one is a threadle slice or backside slice because we want the dog to cut across the face of the jump and land close to the left wing. They will change direction in front of the handler.

I actually handled this as a German because my dog is slow enough to allow running past the left wing and having the dog change direction behind the handler (send on the right hand, pick up on the left hand).

Clear as mud. 😄
