The agility thread

Feeling bitterly dsappointed. I had entered Kelluki Thurs and Sun. The venue is on top of Edge Hill and is lovely and a very nice show generally. Went training Wed evening and went to bed feeling fine. Woke up during the night feeling rough and with pain over my shoulders and neck. When my alarm went off it was obvious I wasn't going anywhere. Took my temperature and it was 38.5 so crawled back into bed. I felt as though I had been hit by a bus, everything hurt. Feeling better today but shaky so Sun is looking unlikely too. 5 classes each day so I had entered all of them to give myself a chance to pick and choose which I did. Nothing for me now till the same show again first week in Sept. What a waste of £52.50.

One of my group is at their first show out of limbo in G3, had an agility win yesterday, I joked that they’d be G4 by Monday. Not even an hour in this morning and they smashed another one, fastest time across grades 3-5 😁

Given large one is on 5 minute lead walks only this week I do seem to pick my 5 minutes. Let’s just say I was relieved it was her and not him I had with me as I headed towards the sound of a girl screaming last night. 🙄

Honestly I think it's just due to low entries, Kelluki has classes in single figures. Derbyshire has qualifiers this weekend and there's champ at Tuffley, either of which are more likely to have a typical outcome I would think.

Out of interest there are a lot of time faults in the medium champ jumping, which has been placed four seconds below the new matrix time. Six more dogs would have been clear if it used the recommended matrix time. Only 14 dogs have made the final out of a possible 20/22.

Lack of clears today in G1-2 was not just down to lack of entries but unneccessarily hard classes. The G1-3 were much nicer. G1-2 agility was basically the same course as the Large Naylor Agility Challenge Qualifier C1-4. That had only 3 clears out of a good entry. Only change for G1-2 was to take the wall and long jump out. Both that and the G1-2 jumping were more like G5 courses. Very unfair on complete novices. I was so relieved to get a really nice steeplechase course followed by a nice jumping course. The last agility course was ok too, plenty of questions but not unfair ones. I messed that up due to being totally knackered. Lovely venue and I look forward to the next one in Sept.

We had a shocking show yesterday (I think Rew was over tired from a long day on Friday), today we have been lurcher racing for the first time and his tiny brain is hurting. He has retired to our bed and will remain under the duvet for a few hours yet.
😂 to the tiny brain.. happy snoozing Rew 😍
Did you decide what breed you were getting next?

Definitely a tiny brain, in a good way (sometimes)!

No decision on literally what comes next!

Lovely photographer at the racing says these can be used so long as she is credited, The Pawtrait Lens.

Gorgeous pics!
I’m hoping for a border pap x whippet next but not for a while.. and pref slightly less whippet % than I currently have 😂

A border pap x whippet (esp a short haired version) would come high on my list. Please can you let me know if there is a breeder you’d recommend?
The only one I'm aware of in the UK is Donna (under Donna Maria on FB) but not sure if she health tests and she appears to breed a lot. Sonia Snell seems like she breeds nice BPs (although I did see a vid of one that appears like it might have ETS.. )
If you are happy to import from the US there are more choices and it's pretty easy for you guys to import, jealous!

Ah I hadn’t realised you weren’t in the UK! Thank you for all that info but that’s all way above my knowledge (off to Google ETS)!

After some really appalling weaves in competition recently (to the point I’ve had to handle him to get the entry) we went training last night and he ran 12 Galican weaves straight off, got the entry, no mistakes, methodical, absolutely amazing!

SWAT tomorrow, will report back after! I am going to try to cultivate my inner couldn’t care less no pressure persona.

Yay, the inner couldn’t care less paid off, with what we now call personal wins.

Weaves all good - the rest of it complete twaddle! Pulling off jumps, no contacts, back jumps… but we got weaves!

There is always a little win somewhere.....so nice one 👏. I'd like occasionally for them all to happen in the same class 🙄🤣 am still waiting. I managed to catch the foot of a jump in training on Weds eve and crash heavily to the ground with Daz watching on rather confused. Unfortunately really wrenched my neck resulting in a trip to the physio. More expense 😥

Rew tripped me up at the end of a jumping run in competition a couple of years ago, I’d just that week removed to splint I’d been wearing for my broken arm, luckily no harm done that time! Hope you feel less sore very soon.

One of those not great on paper days but a lovely day out none the less for the kids first agility show.

Both tiny terrors were eliminated in the jumping. They both did their weaves first time 🥰 and ran really nicely just took different jumps the wrong way when I called them back after running passed.

Ginny did a couple of jumps then said no in the agility so another elimination and she did the same in the triple A so we called it a day. Shes started scooting since we got home so think her glands are bothering her. It's not like her to say no.

Fen got his weaves and seesaw in the agility but another elimination for the wrong course after he went passed a jump then jumped over when I called him to me to correct it 🙄

He was then 2nd in the triple A 🥰 yes we got time faults because he went to check on dad after jump one 🙄 then faults of handling when I retrieved him and a refusal for his last A frame. He felt brilliant once he switched his brain on though. We do need to work on him telling me with his teeth that I'm running too slow though 🤣

I was at the same show , wish I'd known you were there. Sounds like you had lots of positives. I believe the beginners jumping wasn't very beginner friendly :( The advanced had more round the backs than poor Zig had seen in his life, he did well until about jump 14 then threw in the towel ! He then went round the up ramp of the A frame twice in the triple A, he's never done that before. Thankfully got his mojo back today with some nice courses. Hopefully see you at another show.

To be fair, I was so nervous I dont think I'd have noticed anyone 🤣

I didn't mind the jumping course tbh, it ran nicely with my pair, they were just hyped so made silly mistakes.

The beginners triple A initially was awful with a figure of 8 round the backs. So many complained the judge changed it.

I'm hoping to be back for the next one 🤞

I feel your pain about the round the backs.....there seem to be so many these days it's clearly the in thing. We are not competing until Dogs in Need. However really not looking forward to it as wish I hadn't entered. I shouldn't say it but almost feel like time faults will be a given for us 😢

We had time faults yesterday, he is not a slow dog. I checked later and the time was for champ level under the new matrix! However, looking at results again back home the course time had changed and those of us who had time faults were all now in course time. So obviously a mistake but shows as several have suspected that the new matrix is going to be unachievable for a lot of dogs. :(

I’m going to use this week’s KCI results to gauge where we are on the new matrix. It’ll be a wide spread of judges and course types, plus the predicted 24c is about where he will sometimes not be running at his fastest so it should be a good representation of the ‘steady clear’.

Large one is going to referral tomorrow, although you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong to look at her so I feel a bit of a fraud. 😳 Wind her up with a ball and have her running tight turns though and she is blink-and-you’ll-miss-it just not quite right behind. Poor referral vet has a LOT of videos. I’d like to rule out things like iliopsoas strain, world’s tiniest ANNPE etc. before throwing her back into her usual level of work.

I hope referral vet either finds nothing or something easily treatable. These crazy GSDs have no sense of self preservation !

Great news. Big N has regular physio now, J finds it a great way of flagging up possible issues before they become a problem. Its a bit far for you to Whitchurch I expect but the ones we use are fabulous and treat loads of sport dogs.
