I'm looking for recommendations for the best heavy duty cordless clippers.

They will be used on a very hairy welsh cob that grows a long, thick coat.

Ideally something that won't break the bank but it is more important that they are up to the job!

If you have any pictures of your mammoths that have been clipped with your cordless clippers please share! ?

Following this with interest!

I've got a set of Liveryman Harmony, but TBH would only consider them as being suitable for a much lighter coat then what I've got.

I hired a set of cordless a while back, Oh gosh wish I could remember what they were coz they were totally effing useless! As much use as a nun in a punch-up. Trouble is I can't remember what they were! But if someone else on here mentions them I'll probably remember! Oh dear, not much use!

They were soooh bad that when I described what they were like (and I had a witness), the clipping people refunded me. They heated up, not just hot, but very hot!! Not funny when you've got a horse under sedation and every minute counts, and you're there having to faff around waiting for the dang things to cool down! And the battery-pack (which was supposed to have come fully charged) gave out after only 20 mins (at most) clipping.

Dammit, wish I could remember the make of them! Think they were Liberty- something........

Were they they lister liberty ones? That's absolutley awful! I normally clip mine with my old clippers with a cord but we've moved to a yard where I have nowhere I can plug them in... Gutted!

Masterclip! The customer service is fab, the clippers are tough and heavy duty and they come with 2 batteries. I love mine. 3yrs old and still going strong and theyve been booted across the yard and dropped more than once!

I have Lister Liberty clippers, they are fantastic! Not only will they clip a horse but I also use them for dagging out cattle and sheep (clipping off dried in shit) and they cope just fine. The new version of the battery pack is vastly superior to the old one.

Another for the Heiniger Xplorers. Not cheap, but definitely worth it. They clip my yak like cob no problem and don’t leave tramlines.

I have the Masterclip cordless as Leo Walker mentions. I have clipped my horse twice for two years now and they are still as good as the day I bought them

Another vote for the heinigers, I'm clipping a coarse irish cob with standard then fine blades after doing the whole lot. Does a sterling job as long as i remember to charge the batteries.

Only problem i had with them was over the last 12 month they seemed to cut out while clipping, i was sure it was a blade issue but even freshly sharpened blades seemed to not work and made me tighten the tension which would cause them to get warm. I tried a local guy to sharpen the blades as i had tried anything else and said it felt like the blades were blunt. He had them done in a day and 3 clips on the blades have started to catch whereas before i could barely get one out of them and certainly not go feathers and hog. They were being sent away to be sharpened by a very well known company, I'm not sure if i can say who. I never raised it with them as i wasn't sure how to prove it but the local chap is cheaper and quicker so problem solved. So be careful who you send blades to.

Ooh I bet I know which one. I had the same problem (not with the Xplorers, before them) with newly sharpened blades not cutting, the company said it was my fault but strangely enough a local chap sharpened them for me and they were grand. Only trouble being that each set of blades only has so many sharpenings in them, so some of the life was wasted.

Interesting that others have had problems with the blades - with a new pair of Heineger blades I can do 5 full clips before they start to blunt. After they've been 'sharpened' (by a huge national company) I'm lucky if I can get all the way through one clip without having to wind the tension up.

I’ve also got these and found them very easy to use and cut really well. They’re my first clippers and my first time clipping but no problems at all. I don’t have anything to compare them to though.

Yes by a company that most could immediately think of stocking all clipper brands, grooming equipment etc.

I don't actually think mine were even sharpened just cleaned, i said to my mum that there is nothing stopping them giving them a good clean and packaging them straight up and back to you, there is no way of proving if they do or don't even do anything. Also sorry to hear you both had trouble but i'm glad i was not alone. For a whole year i thought i was doing something wrong and it was only when i went to see heiniger at YHL where we went through everything that i thought there was no way it was my fault.

I find the same with my Heiniger blades as well one set only clipped 1 hairy Arab and half of the other one!
