It's a very Britcentric entry list this year. Where are all the Europeans? A lot of them have more than one horse at the level so surprised not to see more of them - not one German!

I fancy going. But not this year.

It’s so hard (and expensive) to watch horse sport on TV now. ? You have to pay for all these separate streaming services, and you’re already paying for a pile of streaming services. It adds up.

Burghley TV did used to be free, but also because it's been running a while I'd hope there weren't any glitches. I will probably buy it though, I know I'm not going to cope with XC crowds this year/last time I went with all days members passes considered I'd have enjoyed it more at home that day anyway!

I’m going and very excited as I’ve never been to one of the big events before.

Saw on Facebook today the Carl Hester is doing a masterclass on the Friday.

Grateful for any top tips on how to survive the whole event…

Excellent :) for me it's been worth it to do members with a friend even just for the ease of parking, this is the first year since moving here that I've not.
I've not used the members enclosure for anything other than the the loos, which are round the back of the marquee The members tickets allow you access to the dressage seating down the long side.

I really like the shopping at burghley (more than badminton) there's probably more non horsey stuff too and good smaller company food options (there's usually 2 rows of independent food altogether so you can do a recee up and down, though grasmere seem to do the best breakfast options ;) ) .

Last time it ran was the first time they did burghley radio - I was used to having it at badminton and really missed it watching the dressage at burghley as its nice to have some commentary. Which reminds me, where did I put the mini portable radio I bought for the purpose (you can buy set frequency ones on site)

Don't underestimate the walk up winners avenue to the cottesmore leap, it's quite a long hill on foot.

Oh when you arrive, the members enclosure is on the left and the press tent on the right, just past the press tent is the big score boards and if you stop off there there will be print outs of the dressage times for everyone so worth picking one up and seeing what sessions you want to watch some people and which you don't mind doing other stuff.

They do have a few big screens but they do fall down on that for me as they aren't very big compared to badminton ones (and blenheims jockey club ones last year were spectacular). but some years they have had one in discovery valley that means you can sit on the bank and watch the feed (while being near the food) and some jumps in real life at the same time.

There is a second ring that runs the pony club team jumping and the burghley young event horse finals, I've never particularly enjoyed watching either myself.

Burghley is a lovely event. The membership is well worth having for both the parking and for the nicer loos!

Burghley radio is good, you can buy one of their event mini fixed frequency radios there but if you already have a suitable portable radio that will be better. I have this one.

For XC day we staked out a really good spot at the Trout Hatchery in 2019 and stayed there for the day.

I'm eye rolling at the fact that they still want to send out paper tickets, really. . . ?
And they'd like to charge you £8.25 for postage because if they are lost coming just first class you lose them completely. That's more than the difference of buying them on the gate for me, so will be doing that I suppose!

Think how much time and money could be saved doing it electronically. Mad.

I went for over twenty five years every year with and without sprogs and other peoples sprogs in tow, then lost my enthusiasm, so haven't been for a while, but this year I have booked a caravan in, to make it a mini break, I want to see the trot up on Wednesday, about the only bit I haven't seen. So I am pre shopping for snacks and drinks, and hoping the weather is cool, its usually warm, although one year in the 80's it was cold and wet every day.
I am going with a friend who is more interested in the XC, I just go to eat and nap through the dressage. It's a small caravan, so I hope we do not fall out, too much. Come Friday I may have a spare ticket for the XC, I can happily miss the crush.

I’m gutted I’m not going this year. Poorly parents need my care. So I guess I’ll buy the tv subscription (grumpily as it used to be free!). Tbh, the way prices are going up and money is getting tighter, I think I won’t be going to U.K. 5* events much longer. Sadly, as I’ve been going for years. They’re so much more expensive than European equivalents.

I know can't believe there isn't an e-ticket option.

I am really nervous about ordering my tickets and not being able to get duplicates if there are problems! There is a collect from the box office option though so I might do that ...

I was surprised there was no e-ticket for Blenheim tickets too, especially given the push for everyone to be environmentally friendly.

We camped at blenheim last year, no one had any tickets, and they couldn't do reprints on site so they had to get head office to reprint our SJ seats and post them down ?. They did put Burghley's big screens to shame though.

Previously I've had members tickets + 2 SJ tickets so as a proportion paid the £8.25 for delivery (+ booking fee)
But ticket for myself and car for one day it's going to cost more to do it online than on the gate.
