The cost of dog food!

I never usually even think about what the two dogs cost to feed, but due to one of them now moved on to a Hypoallergenic prescription diet I have been searching for cheapest online seller of the one she is on . They are both on Calibra dry dog food and they look very well on it I have to say. But....they are costing me more to feed a week each than my horse cost me, never mind the donkeys! :eek:

So one 12kg pack for each of the different diets they are on has just cost me a whopping €195 for a months supply. So approximately €50 per week. I think €50 is currently roughly £43 sterling.

Purely out of interest as I definitely won't be changing what they are on, but does this seem a lot to you, roughly what do your dogs cost to feed per week? 🤔
 
I get a 20kg bag of a cold pressed food for £70 but that's because there are a few of us buying it and we get a discount. Last bag was £50 because he is clearing out and starting to sell a different brand. The new stuff will be £50 for 14kg, still a good quality cold pressed food.
 
My whippet is raw fed, he gets 500g of paleo ridge a day and it costs roughly £75 for 32 trays of it. I could get cheaper but I like the convenience as each tray is his daily portion so I’m not having to mess about dividing up raw food. I also like that the trays are cardboard not plastic.

He also gets stuff like raw duck necks, dried sprats, pig ears, rabbit ears, various other bones and chewy stuff.

Costs a small fortune tbh if I add in insurance, vet plan and the 3 sets of blinds he destroyed as a pup I could have a horse! 😅
 
£35 a month for a 12kg bag of grain free 55% meat content local pet/equine shop kibble (was feeding millies wofheart but it was getting expensive) and about £10 for some meat/sardines on top and whatever nice treats for her ladyship (30kg greyhound)
 
I tried changing mine to a better food, but it didn't agree with her and she didn't like it as much, so I put her back on her usual food which is Step up to Naturals wet food £50pm and Wainwrights complete at £30pm.

I am even more terrified now, I have also worked out their monthly insurance costs, wormers, flea treatment etc.......:oops:.......I love my dogs, I love my dogs, yes I love my dogs very, very much.😂
 
About £50 a month on raw nutriment rolls and also topped up with £15 or so a month Yora biccies given as treats. Plus the odd chew. 22kg Lurcher. Probably £70 a month £50 insurance a month too. Could be worse I suppose!
 
I have just looked at my order emails and £90 supply of cold pressed lasts my two almost exactly two months. ~10kg Standard wire dachshund and a ~12kg cocker spaniel.

So, apparently £22.50 a month each!? Which is a lot less than I felt it was. Feel like my maths has gone wrong somewhere.

Of course that’s just their food. Add chews, treats, dog walking, insurance, etc etc…
 
I look at dogfood.com which has an analysis of dog food costs, but l have stuck with my online supplier for a good few years and get at least a 30% discount on dog food which includes treats etc Not sure the exact costs - don’t want to know!, but around £50 a dog feeding 3 medium sized dogs.
 
Does anyone have a local butcher that makes a mince for dogs? Was wondering about asking the butcher that supplies the pub, surely if he's putting the off cuts and bits he won't use ( spleen, cartridge etc) into it he can do it cheaper than the £2.79 per 500g I'm paying at Aldi??
 
2 small terriers about £35 to £40 monthly for food for both. Wormer/flea stuff about £15 month for both.
Insurance £120 month for both (lifetime cover. Moti I co-pay 20% of all bills as he is 9yo now).
Physio for Moti approx 100 a month as he's out of insurance this year for this.
Don't tell OH he has no idea😂
 
One on raw 500g plus a tin of sardines a day £40 a month (I get a fantastic discount due to some work I did for them when they started up) and another on 200g of Arden grange a day is £20 per month so not too bad.

Insurance is £140 per month by comparison and that's not even with one of the 'better' companies...Napo wanted £325 pm at renewal this year.
 
Roughly €175 (£140) a month for 9 (Various mix of Royal Canin, Purina Pro Plan, a cold pressed grain free, Field and Trial, Bosch and Rocco canned for some. Raw is all free bar the ammunition/my time in processing). Dogs range from 40kg to 7kg.
 
We're feeding Millie's Wolfheart and a 12kg bag lasts pretty much bang on one month for 27kg Greyhound. Usual mix is £58 and currently trialling a high fat recipe which is £60.

Plus toppers (sardines usually, odd bit of greek yog, raw tripe).
 
Approx 50p a day in wet food per Pom
£1 a day in wet food for the Boston
Unsure how much cold pressed we get through exactly for the spaniel. Approx £40/15kg so approx £1 a day by my maths.
£120 a month for the 4. Could save lots having them all on dry but the smalls do well on wet.
 
My medium sized cross-breed gets 1/4 tin of Butchers canned food in jelly and 70g of Step up to Naturals twice a day which works out at 80p a day or roughly £25 a month. He has some snacks on top.

However my elderly fussy hyperthyroid retired stable cat costs me around £100 a month on premium wet food. Fat cat which only eats Purina One Bifensis chicken flavour kibble is much less.

This. One year i wrote in a diary every single penny I'd spend on animals.... never again will i do something so stupid!
I was absolutely floored 🤣

£43 a week does sound like a lot to me though, I don't think we pay that much but with 4 and a variety of different bits and bobs we may well do.
 
Ours are raw feed, 2 Spinoni and a Border collie cost about £45 a week, we do feed the cheaper end of the range and they get eggs and the odd rabbit or pheasant added in.
 
£160 a month to feed my 2 retrievers (30kg and 25kg) a mix of kibble and wet food. We trialed Butternut Box (expensive mistake!) and they loved it so much, so decided to keep the on it and compromised on the kibble with a slight downgrade of Arden grange swapped to Autarky a few months ago, saving about £20 per 12.5kg sack. I also buy more BB when it's on offer.
