Horses are not humans and humans are not horses.....so why do some people refer to what they would or wouldn't like which is why they don't do it to their horses?

LOL!! This always makes me giggle that some folks seem incapable of understanding that species within the Animal Kingdom are not the same, do not act the same, do not understand the same.

Just my thought for the day

i agree compleatly i hate it how some of my friends say to me why doesn't my horse stand still it knows it should, and i just think they are wild animals to be honest they need to be taught, they don't automaticly know that they must stand still lol

very interesting thought for the day there

When I was selling my mare last year I had a girl come and try her, who was just perfect with her, they went so well together, my only problem was she didnt want to jump, compete etc.. just hack around and school, and my mare had the ability to go places, and fast
grin.gif
my trainer pointed out that it wasnt the horses that had ambitions, it was the riders, and my mare couldnt care less if she was eventing or hacking, as long as the rider got on with her

Do you mean, Tia, that my box rested girlie doesn't like Radio 4 because it stimulates her intellectually?
And will my herd not care if I rug them in 'last year's colour'?
And that we should make horses walk whilst pooing even though we don't do that as we shop etc?
LOL!

We had one woman on or yard who was the usual yard oddball. We used to have a hay field that was opened up once the hay was off it. Most of the horses on the yard had been there for years and knew when the field was opened and would go and stand round the gate a few days before. We went down to open the gate one day and most of the horses when through into the field but some, including this woman's stayed in the big field. I went and let her know that the field was now open. Her reply...had I told her pony that the gate was open, how stupid of me what was I thinking not to tell the poor pony!!! So she set off down the field to tell him that the gate was open!!

lol point taken

I just assume it will be uncomfortable for them to poo whilst walking etc as it would be for me, I do realise that horses and humans are not the same species and should have explained myself better.

PMSL!! Oh what a fabulous story that is

.

I hear people going on about scrubbing their buckets constantly as they wouldn't like to eat their dinner off a dirty plate.......
crazy.gif
.

People who don't feed on the ground as the people wouldn't like to eat from the ground....
crazy.gif

Yes pooing whilst walking was one of those things too, LOL!! I don't know any person who stops whilst shopping, drops their pants and poos
blush.gif
. Perhaps we should make horsey loos?
grin.gif

I like the radio one though....I think my horses do actually enjoy music - I keep my barn radio on all the time too
cool.gif
.

As for sending your horse out in last years colours!!! Shock horror!
shocked.gif

I'm sure she listens to the Archers...but what if I turn her out and she misses an episode?????
What should I do about last year's colours? I wouldn't want them to be laughed at by their fieldmates? The BHS syllabus never helps with stuff like this.....

Because some people are special...... ( I include myself in this bracket)

My horse has pj's, armpits, hands and feet. Stands to Poo and wee. My buckets are washed out and actually disinfected occasionally... in the winter I warm the bit on the car heater and I talk and ask him questions such as "do you want your rug" "apple or carott" and I also wave at him when i get to the yard or leave the yard.

I do this becasue I am as daft as he is and to me he is not only my horse but my pet and my friend. I am a happy hacker and maybe because of this and the fact he is my first horse the relationship is different.

This aside he is fed a balance diet and not over indulged, he has manners on the ground and is healthy and happy. When he can not longer be "worked" he will graze until he looks like he has had enough or shows signs of struggling and then will be PTS. (i add this bit as I have issues with people loving them too much that it becomes unkind)

Every yard has a person like me, variety is the spice of life and all that

Do you remember, Bex7, when you were a teenager, and your parents used to embarass you by (delete as appropriate);
Dancing badly
Waving wildly
Kissing you when they dropped you off
Hugging you
Being 'cool' by chatting to your mates?

You do? That cringing feeling is how your boy feels in front of his mates. Imagine....poor boy will have no street, I mean field, cred left.
Cruelty!

Poor boy....think you should have my 2 year old for a while....that'd put you off excess affection (it's a daemon with horn buds, cloven hooves and a forked dock)....want to swap?
S

erm no thanks.
wink.gif

I don't like horses without manners as TBH I am quite nervous around horses on the ground....well obviously not Bert but then other than being a little dim..... on the ground he is very well behaved and moves out of your space when asked, never nips, kicks etc. If only the same could be said for under saddle!

You'd be able to buy pink rugs and gold headcollars for her (she's a chav), as long as you can cope with her saying 'bothered? I ain't bothered' when you tell her off?
When she doesn't want to do something...she lies down....
you could tuck her up with a duvet, perhaps?

Yes, I just think it makes people feel better when they work twice as hard as they have too to make sure their horses are living in human like conditions.

"Oooh, I had to get him in, I would hate to be out in this weather",,,,but your horse is happily munching grass and doesn't seem to care much about the weather. Leave the poor sod alone.

I guess the intentions are all good but some of this humanising does verge on cruelty.

It's like people who overfeed Dogs. "Ooh, but Daisy loves Ice Cream, She would sulk if she didn't get her Ice cream everyday"!! WTF!! (My Grandparents btw, grrr)!!

LOL I also don't do the fillies/mares
smile.gif

The one thing I do not indulge in is bling and gadgets and rugs, not guilty on that front
grin.gif

one bridle, cost effectvie saddle, a rug of each thickness in whatever colour the cheapest was
shocked.gif

Not only is he embarassed by me but also the lack of latest fashion
tongue.gif

ETS: just read bonzabean's post and would like to add that he is out 24x7 without a rug as that is what cobs do..... treated like a horse not a lap dog and only rugged in the summer at night to make sure he is dry to ride. The humanising him is for my own warpped benifit and he has no idea i am calling his rug PJ's or mentioning his hands and armpits so am sure it will not lead to therapy
grin.gif

Tia, you have disappointed me!
mad.gif
I was expecting a poll!
grin.gif

I have to say that I'm a total moron when I'm around horses - I talk to them, sing to them, and totally patronise them... Ho hum
blush.gif

However, when it comes to their comfort and well being, they are treated as a horse.

No I don't believe they need the latest coloured rug / newest bit on the market / newest concept saddle.
Neither do they need the latest gadgets that are in vogue, nor the newest miracle feed on the market.
I also don't feel the need to wrap them up in a thousand tog duvet in a stable, just because it's raining / windy / cold, or god forbid - all three.

You might as well call the ILPH out now...

LOL. I use human names for stuff, Like you I don't treat them like humans.

Straw stuck in hooves are slippers. "Oooh, you've still got your Slippers on"! etc etc.
tongue.gif

If Patches were anywhere near human she'd understand the expletive laced remarks in a sentence containing the words "glue", "France" and "plate" every time she steps on my foot, and refrain from doing it again!

You're not alone Bex, I understand and am with you

I totally agree with this too.

grin.gif

Atleast out here a lot of people get involved in horses because they lack social skills - therefore their horse is their 'friend' or 'child' etc.

was concious I was coming across and a smotherer!

Bloomin smotherer.

PMSL, Sorry I just couldn't resist
grin.gif

I do agree with you, but unfortunatley i treat mine like children!!
Having said that, i also don't believe that horses have any appreciation for what we do for them and as humans i think we do things purely to make us feel needed by them.
As long as they are fed and have ample turnout, i don't think they care whether they see us once a day or four times a day!
