Can I please share, the fact that I have just lost my last old best friend!!!!!!

3 months to the day , I lost my old skineey boy, and yesterday (I know a day late but could not cope with it yesterday) :(, I lost my old last boy.

Smokey was an old grey welsh mountain pony, who was a little "$T$ in his younger days, I did not have thre pivaledge of knowing him then, but my 5 year old daughterlearned to ride on him, I did not own him but have looked after him for the last 4 years, he made such an impact on my life.

He was the most endearing pony, even when he broke my foot.

Yesterday morning, I went to feed thm all as usual and smokey was lying down, I did not have my usual morning whinney, I went over to him, and he was bright as a button, but could not get up :(, I took off his rug, rubbed his leggs, he tried and tried, his face was full of frustration, I made him comfy and got him his breakfast and a drink, which he drank and ate with his usual gusttoo.

I went back an hour later and he rolled over and streached out his legs, and I really did think he would get up, but it never happened.

We had him PTS sleep last night, the most upsetting thing was he really was not ready, and was really cross with himslef for not getting up, but it as not fair to keep him like that.

He whinned again when I went to give tea time feed, just like his old selfXXXXX

Please give out HHO hugs to this specual old boy, who should have been buried with my horse in a life time but could not :( :(

How sad, that must have been absolutely heart breaking but you did the best by him and he didnt suffer.

My friends in a similar situation, her old mare is as bright as a button but her legs are giving way. She has made the decision to call this her last summer.
 
He is ' was' amaing, just want everyone to know who he was and how amazing ,. Even though I loved my skinney boy and it still hurts, I have lost my best friend XXXXXXXXXXX

Strangst thing ever is that our new pony and ponies old friend has started to give me big sucks today!!!!!!!!!! Love him XXXXX
 
Sorry for your loss and the pain you must be feeling at the moment.

It sounds like he had a wonderful life.

oh that is really sad but a brave decision to PTS, its the kind thing to do if he had trouble getting up. He had a good life by the sounds of it.. RIP Smokey old friend.
 
My first boy who I started loaning from my YM was amazing and taught me everything! I took him to my first shows and he built my confidence up so much.
He was such a good horse! Manners to die for, no vices, lovely personality and brilliant to ride. We qualified for the regionals and did so well going up through the levels.
I then decided to buy him and we had so many happy years together until he got cushings induced laminitis too many times so we had to put him to sleep in 2008.

Sounds like he had a stroke :( this is how i found my mare.

RIP little smokey gone but never forgotten :(


Sounds like you have loads of love to give I hope this really doesn't mean the end and you can help another chap in the future ...

And massive Hugs to all that knew him - I share your pain as one of my old boys did something similar to me last wednesday, was coming in from the field, collapased, couldnt get up despite him wanting to and had to be PTS. You really did the best by Smokey and he will be watching over you i am sure x
