I’ve had lots of problems with my current horse. There have been times I haven’t liked or wanted him very much 😳
The lady I was riding with today said to her horse who got a bit close “careful you’ll get a hoof in your face”
To which I turned round and said absolutely not! I’ve never seen this horse lift a hoof to anything, I can bear hug his bum as he eats dinner, he’s never once pulled a face or put his ears back at me.
He has started coming to call, standing tied up for endless time, leaves the yard alone every time with no hesitation (later on in a lone hack who knows what he may chuck at me, but we can go out alone!)
I can pretty much do anything to him. When my little dog is around I trust him, as much as you can, he won’t hurt him on purpose.
I moan about this horse but today really realised things could be a whole lot worse.
His opinion is probably if she learnt to ride properly I’d stop moaning about her too 😂😂

I think sometimes it’s easy to overlook the good and focus on the not so good!
My girls would never bite or kick anyone. They can be handled by anyone and are easy day to day. I can stand right behind them with no concerns, muck out around them if need be. They are good girls and I love them both a lot, even the ankle breaker! 😁

That’s such a lovely thing. I work with racehorses and TBS a lot and take fir granted getting threatened/bitten kicked at. I didn’t even really notice that mine never ever does that. I don’t have to be aware of where his teeth are at any point ever. It’s just not a thing and I live that.
It’s sad I hadn’t really realised. I think I slightly took offence to the comment and reeled off his good bits.

Everything about him is good, I absolutely love him to bits… he’s amazing, hes handsome, hes fun, he is clever, he has a fantastic sense of humour, he will try anything for you.
He has quirks, he’s unpredictable sometimes, he spooks easy, he gets jealous, but I wouldn’t change him for the world 🌎

My mare: She loves cuddles and will be groomed all day, once she trusts you she'll get you out of trouble and put up with kiddie's antics, she can judge a rider's level and is a plod with beginners (right tit if you're not though, you've been warned!), she'll let you lay down with her especially when she's sunbathing.

Haven't had my loan long enough to know him inside out but he's 100% trustworthy and calm in the majority plus he has the cutest face known to man.

Anyone can handle her, she's an absolute sweetheart. Kids are safe with her on the ground, she knows to behave with them and will behave politely. She's easy to ride, can be ridden after a long break, her only flaw is she's a bit nappy. Can be forward but we have better brakes now we are bitless. Basically I'm very lucky to have her, if I had another horse I'd have to learn to ride properly!

Tali is just a dream to have. She’s got a lovely nature, funny, doesn’t break through fences, doesn’t bite or kick, not fussy, she’s clean, she trusts me, friendly, tries hard to please, she enjoys spending time with me and just makes me smile all the time. She can be a little bit sassy and impatient but never bad with it. She is my perfect partner in crime and feel so lucky I get to spend my days with her.

Sky is super friendly and loves people but he’s very much my horse he’s knows I am his person.
Hes clever and bold and not lazy he likes being busy and loves learning stuff .
He likes being in the field or stable he’s very confident and happy on his own .
Hes been a very good boy today so I will leave the bad for another day .

Blue is a great big lump of a cob but I have met few horses as contentious in his work as him he try’s and try’s and hates making mistakes .
He also was good boy today so I won’t be impolite and mention the destruction of fencing which accompanied his arrival .

H is gentle and kind he always try’s to please he had a hard start to working life and arrived an angry defensive horse .

Fatty is the naughtiest funniest horse in world but he has some character flaws but you should never insult the elderly .

Neither of mine will bite or kick. They are so kind and gentle to handle, and they just want to please.

Fin is quirky, but he knows more about ground and footing than you ever will. You can point him at anything, give him his head, and he will figure it out. He doesn't get high or buzzy cantering in groups. He comes right back when you ask. He doesn't always understand humans and has some doubts about us, but he tries really hard.

Hermosa is smart and learns fast. She is so willing, so soft, so kind, and just wants to communicate with you and be with you. She has the odd stroppy teenage moment, but gets over it fast. She loves work. She hates getting the wrong answer. She has been calm and happy since I backed her; she's ridden, just like the big, adult horses. I think she is proud of this.

Highland - doesn't ever kick or bite, loves you if there's food, easy to catch even if just gone out on long grass, fun to ride, cheeky character that makes you laugh. She's amazing with novices.

New Forest - affectionate, will meet you at gate several times a day, follows you around field, lives going for in hand walks or dozing in field with you.

Love the fact she doesn’t bite or kick. She also really respects my dogs. Love how she hears me and comes running. I haven’t had to walk up to her for the last year!

She’s also easy, easy to handle, loads herself, can be clipped not even tied up including her face.. just such an easy horse to own. Especially for a 5yo. ❤

My pony is rock solid. She's quiet and calm, and being with her is very peaceful. She is not by any means a loud flashy type, but chooses to stand a little bit away from the hustle & bustle and likes to observe instead. I really appreciate this about her, along with her kindness and patience. Of course she can have her moments (don't we all 😂) but to me, she is perfect.

Went to pick him up from being turned away yesterday. Forgot how much I ❤️ Him. He is kind and brave. I trust him. On the ground, he’s nearly perfect - never gone to bite or kick. I d trust him (mostly) with my 7 yr old son. Son can groom etc and my horse doesn’t bat an eye. He tries his best. But he is still only a baby and has baby moments. I wouldn’t have a different one tho.

He’s a charming cheeky chappie. Yes he is nibbley, but he’s so adorable he gets away with it.
He’s a happy guy, in the 4 years I’ve owned him I’ve seen him put his ears back only twice.
He tries so hard, he might struggle with things but by golly he tries, and despite giving an air of ‘Tim nice but dim’ he’s actually pretty smart.
Oh, and he’s a bit of a looker 😊

This is a lovely post. It’s nice to see the good things as a lot of posts, understandably, are about issues.

I have too many horses so will just pick one, my darling old H, who has been rock solid every single day since I bought him 18 years ago. Never a buck or rear, nothing worse than a rare spook. He’s still the one I want to sit on if I have a confidence wobble, was the first horse my sons rode and is at the same time an opinionated impatient chap who just wants to get going, still.

One of my horses is EXCEPTIONALLY quirky to ride. He ended up having £12k worth of diagnostics, including MRIs, because I was sure it was pain. Turns out he’s actually just a bit of a knob. He has put several people in hospital, and is generally just a massive pain and the most Marmitey horse I’ve ever ridden.

However, that horse is the definition of bombproof to handle. A 5yr old can lead him (he’s 17.2hh), he is perfect with dogs, children, other animals, the leaf blower under him, loads into anything, stands where he’s left even if not tied up, comes when he’s called, is so laid back to clip that I’ve often been asked if he’s doped as he’s falling asleep while his ears are being done, and once had a full set of leg and foot X-rays with no sedation.

I would take his quirks under saddle any day. Anyone can deal with my boy on the ground, and that is an absolute joy.

He is cheeky and has his own special opinion about things. He suffered with ulcers and was in great pain and showed some frightening moves 18 months ago.
I forgive him, well you’d have to be totally unfeeling not to, because since recovery he has restored my confidence hugely. Any blips have been caused by others being inconsiderate or stupid.
I am sure things will get even better.

My mare can be a little witch but she's my little witch and wouldn't part with her for the world. She has her quirks but is rock solid to ride and looks after me. When learning something new once shes got it she always tries her hardest. I think we just totally understand each other most of the time.

My old mare is 26 now, have had her since she was 3. She has been a real star in her working life, and is soft and sweet in temperament. She gets a little impatient now if I am slow to sort things out for her but is always respectful.
Companion mare has been with us 4 1/2 yrs now, she has learnt the ropes and is a perfect companion and an easy pony to handle. I love them both and would not swap them, I know how hard it is to find the ideal.

Pepsi is quirky to handle and ride, but predictably so. I know what triggers him, if you don’t do those things he’s solid as anything. He’s just sensitive, and can be a little bit of a drama queen.

But saying that: he would never bite or kick. I don’t think he’s ever even pulled a face at me. He is generally very polite to lead, just stays nicely with you, you can send him through gates first and he will turn himself around to wait while you close it up etc.

He is the most bombproof hack I’ve ever owned and is great in traffic (he’s not a plod but I feel incredibly safe on him, the worst I’ve known him do is a little scoot forwards or a banana impression). He has not once bucked/reared/run off with me. You can get on him after weeks and he will be exactly the same as if he hadn’t had any time off.

ETA. oh and he has a little white triangle on his upper lip which is perfect for a little boop or kiss

I have had some nice horses in my time.Current one.Well she is very sweet to handle in that she never even thinks about biting or kicking.Lovely with my little dog who is not always good with her.To ride she is as safe as any horse can be up to now and I don't think that is going to change.A real steady as you go type which is ideal for me.
