My cob is perfect for me. Going from a bolter to the safest horse I've owned ,.he's pretty much bomb proof. He's kind ,.loves to please , he trusts me and is such a kind person to be around- both for humans and other horses.
Having had a "difficult" horse before, one of my main criteria was that he needed to be my friend and a pet and a nice personality.

My mare can be a bit of a wally, sometimes completely neurotic, sometimes a bit mardy, sometimes does random stupid things (she jumped the field gate, badly, the other day and somehow got away with it, picture attached for fun!) But she always whinnies at me, is always keen and as bright as a button. Never sick or lame. She's a joy to ride out, and although she is a lot calmer than when she was 6 she still keeps you on your toes, but in a good way and I trust her. One thing she isn't is boring!

My boy as long as he thinks he's treated well (woe betide you if he thinks there's been some kind of injustice towards him) is so kind, geniune, laid back but with a sense of fun, is up for any kind of adventuring and will always have my back when I need it - whether that is out hacking or just getting in and out of the field gateway in winter 🤣

He's great to be handled by almost anyone (there are some people he just plain takes against) - even my un horsey OH can fumble about putting a headcollar on and pony will just sigh and wait patiently until he's figured it out, although whilst slightly rolling his eyes it has to be said.

He's the sort to ride that will eyeball different coloured leaves (and let's not mention benches as there's at least a 50/50 chance I'll be leading past it) but with acually scary things like a tractor or motorbikes, big group of cyclists, the herd of cows coming towards us or the kids on the bouncy castle in the garden he's absolutely like 'Dont worry, I got this Mum' and just keeps truckin' along. He'll bounce and make funny go faster noises at anticipation of canter when you're say trotting through a field but will instantly walk on a loose rein when asked.

He's basically got the personality of Donkey from Shrek and if he was a human he'd be a head of a trade union somewhere or human rights lawyer 🤣

Not one single pony of mine would ever dream of biting, kicking or barging. All are polite to lead and tie up, do their feet, groom, faff etc. They are all native ponies and the majority are Shetlands.

The only bad bit is I can't catch one of the mares at the moment. She is a funny one, I'll be able to catch her next week no doubt and won't be able to get her out of my pockets 🙄

Mine is a stress head and weaves and calls and has been known to jump out if his field mate leaves the field.

But he is an utter delight to handle, his bed is so good to do that it's funny when it's not (sent my friend a picture last week when he pulled his rug off the wall, left two piles of poo on top of it and dropped his brushes in the water bucket) and he is just a completely "nice" person generally. Oh, and he is gorgeous, even when he's caked in the mud he likes to grind into every available surface.

I love my girls.

Mim is so clever and engaged. She has this intelligent curiosity which makes me feel like she is constantly trying to figure out what we are doing, and how to be part of the activity.

Barbie is so sensitive and kind. She’s the most affectionate mare, and she tries her heart out to please her rider.

Miri is hilarious. She is six but she’s such a big baby. She plays with zips, tassels and bobbles. She loves people, and really enjoys attention. She looks to me for guidance whenever she’s unsure, which is very sweet. She has this wonderful attitude of “well, if my rider says it’s fine, it must be ok”.

The only thing I’d change about them would be to add a few inches to Mim, for Barbs to have better fetlocks, and for Miri to be sound. Otherwise they are perfect in every way.
