I know for a fact that nothing, but nothing, would induce me to ride any horse down the Hickstead bank!! Too terrifying!

So, folks, would any of you have the bottle to do it? Would you do it on your own horse? Would you do it on an experienced horse? Or has anybody actually done it?

I'd do it. On my 14.1 new forset because he'd do it, he's amazing and would do ANYTHING for me. He wouldn;t be able to do the jump at the bottom though! hah

I think I would ride down the bank on my ponio, as long as there was not a 5ft2 fence at the bottom!!!!
My boy is fantastic at that sort of thing though, I could just let go of the reins, cling on to something and shut my eyes and we would get to the bottom fine!

I would do it after about 3 bottles of pimms/wine/anything with a high alcohol content on my own horse. I know she'd do it *sober* - But I would have to be pissed as hell to do that bank!!!

I would do it half the size! Just a half size replica... but it'd probably take me 5 goes because ponio doesn't like poles. I reckon it'd be fun if it wasn't so big... (as with all things.)

Yes, I suspect my little mare would tackle it with relish! (not the jump after, though) My big gelding would just stand quivering at the top with his hooves over his eyes!!

Ok - I would have been brave enough 20 years ago but not now!
BUT - why do the BBC only show the horses feet and legs as they come off the bank?

Maybe it is because the riders look like they are Sh****ng themselves..... Not good telly!

a few weeks ago i would never have considered it but on a riding holiday recently out in irish forest the guide took us down some really scary slopes, ditches, barely tracks etc and you just had to trust the horse to not tumble down them. They weren't anywhere near as high as the hickstead bank but they were damned steep. The horses just sat back and slid down, didnt seem to bother them at all they seemed to be used to it. I held my breath the first few and prayed for my life but after a couple of days i was converted. I agree i could never do the jump at the bottom tho!

he's such a wuss. He'd just stand there like Mum when you gunna get me down then? haha New forests are amazing there SO trust worthy

Yeah I would give it a go on Bodey but only because I really trust him, wouldn’t do it on another horse, and wouldn’t jump the jump at the bottom unless it was dropped by about 3ft!

The lady who owns my yard has gone today - we were talking about the bank (she's doing the smaller bank today) and told me about a nutty horse that got excited and JUMPED off the top!

God knows how, but he was ok - not even lame!

didn't Tutein jump straight off the top?
i'd have done it on my old mare Skylarker, she'd have had a fairly decent chance of clearing the rails at the bottom too, and was brave and obedient. Katy would go down it (in 1, given the chance, probably) but no way could we manage the rails at the bottom unless they took the top 2 off!

Not a chance in hell - maybe 3 ft one.....maybe! They must have some real, real bottle and not be overexcited and kick off and jump off. What happens when you jump off!?
