On the 23rd Herbs and I did our second prelim dressage test.
I hadn't been able to school him very much at all since our last test due to the school being to frozen or flooded to ride in  But I'm shore most people have been in the same boat.
He was quite good to load in a lorry he's never even seen. Took two lungelines but he went in after only about 5 mins :D
We arrived and I took him in the warm up. Was abit unshore about it as there was 4 other horses in there. But Herbs was a good boy and didn't try to kill them ;) :D.
Then we were called into our test. It was indoors again and it was quite a warm day. The school has little ventilation and it was very stuffy in there. Herbs found it quite hard work and swiched off again as he doesn't like being indoors. I was also put on edge by the woman who took me who told me he needed more impoltion
He broke the first canter again and when I got him going again he picked up the wrong lead. I didn't correct it as atleast he was cantering again ;) The second canter was better and even though he broke He picked up canter on the correct lead streight away. :D
I came out dead chuffed with my little man. Shame others weren't so happy  I was even more pleased when we got our sheet. We got 56.7% and we got 6's for our second canter. A 2 mark improvment :D. I'm so proud of my little man. He's come such a long way since I bought him.
Here's the test.

Please no crit constructive or otherwise as you hear on the video I get enough of it from people I know. The people talking in the background are the people who gave me a lift to the show  I got lots of helpful advice on leaving the arena  ;) :p :D I'm fully aware of my crapness thankyou and all my faults. Please just admire my lovely little pony.
Thankyou for reading my post and watching the video. Hope everyone had a happy xmas. xx :D

I love Herbie, he's just GORGEOUS!!!

You look as if you were very nervous, you shouldn't be, you have done an amazing job with him. Bet all those who were giving you "advice" wouldn't have stuck by him through all the hard times, and come out the other side with such a sweet pony :)

Well done,I don't often post, but I love hearing your updates. Your little man has come such a long way since you first got him,I hope you are righty proud of your achievements.

Thanks guys :D

sychnant I was put on edge by some helpfull advice at the start ;) I do sometimes feel like saying to them. " you ride him then if it's so easy" But I couldn't be that mean to Herbs. ;) :p

Spottyappy I'm so proud of him. I knew he could be a nice little pony if someone gave him a chance. :D

Mythical He used to be very horrid (and can still be alittle horrid but I love him all the same) :)

yay well done herbs. I turned the volume down so couldn't hear anything ;) I love the way you video so much that you do. sometimes when my new boy is trying it on and annoying me I think about you - don't worry I'm not stalking you

2.09 to 2.20 is priceless!!!!! exactly what my dad says..... i compete medium :/ and an extended trot is still a 'very wild gallop'

well done you did very well! just keep gaining those higher marks! :) you'll be in the 60%'s in no time!

Well done :D I love reading your posts as he was just the same as my nf pony about 2 years ago so hopefully he will be like mine in the next couple of years :D did another novice on 23rd and got 65%!

Just wondering what you fed him? I give my nf 2 spoon thingys of naf ener-g a day and that keeps him a lot more awake but no naughty energy at all and has helped him sooo much since giving it too him probs in august time he is now schooling medium level at home and helps him so much. Although I do have a bd trainer ride him for me :p

I just love nf ponies - they're the best :D

Also It seems to be very harsh marking! I certainly wouldn't give it a 56%! some bits were lovely when he was soft and round. At the end of the day nf ponies aren't warmbloods - they don't have 'impulsion' (well haven't met one yet that does! :p ) or 'suspension in the gait' etc they were bred as working ponies. I think he looks ace :D

He looks so much happier in the contact than so many horses you see out and about now, I bet the more you do the more your marks will rocket up. He's adorable and you've worked miracles with him! The video of him staging a sit-in lunging still makes me howl with laughter :D

Lost Claus LOL :p Thankyou for your kind words. It's nice to think we can help other people to :)

TandD glad it's not just me ;) :p and thankyou. We'll get there in the end. :D

rachaelstar I love your forester. Well done with your result :D He doesn't get fed much realy. Speedy beet, chaff and hifiber cubes. Don't want him to have to much energy as he can be very difficult at times :o I think he just needs to be fitter. I've not been riding him much lately :o The marks worn't helped by the horse before us. When they were warming up they were doing very impressive halfpass and shoulder in. Also some lovely extended trot then went in and got well over 70% in a prelim test  I was very pleased with 56% at the mo i'm aiming for mid 50% as we are only just starting don't want to much pressure on us. :D

Well done Laura!! Fab!!!! He's just such a dude, I think him and Dolly pony would be best friends (or kill each other, could go either way!!!) xxxx

Well done you :D.

It's great to have someone video so you can see what is required when you cross reference with the score sheets.

I too come under for 'impulsion'. If I gather my more together I get told he is not 'forward' enough but if I push him on I get that he is 'rushing'! If only all our babies were judged on their own merit not compared to warm bloods.

Laura, Herbs is truly adorable as are you but I felt like that was very uncomfortable viewing at times. Perhaps some constructive crit would be helpful as you have some really experienced people at your fingertips here. It would be a shame not to ask for advice surely?

What a beautiful boy he is, even if he is the truly horrid one :D

It really did make for exhausting viewing TBH. He looks unfit and bored. I actually feel sorry for your pony as I don't think either of you could have really enjoyed that experience. Going against the grain

Really dont want to say this but i agree, he looks tense and quite unhappy! If he was fitter you would both find it a lot easier and he would be a lot more elastic :)

TBH having watched it a second time, he doesnt look particularly sound at times :S there is no impulsion and he is very behind your aids. There is potential for a veyr nuce horse but i think perheps get him a little sharper off your aids first. :)

Really not trying to come across as mean here, honest to god. But unfortunately i do agree with the mark. Sorry!

I wish you every sucess in the future :)

Why are we pussyfooting FGS. Nice girl but.................

Because it is just unaffilaite prelim :) But you are right. The horse is not forwards, is ignoring the constant flapping and looks very uncomfortable in all trot work and the 4 time beat of the canter is very wrong. Should really be doing some more schooling and fittening work to make it capable of trying.

I have always admired you Laura, but i am sorry to be so negative, i probably would have marked it lower. And please sort your hands ;). Sorry its a pet hate of mine!

Yes far too much flapping. A tap with the stick wake him up and get him listening he was totally ignoring everything you asked pretty much as you were kicking all the way round.

I do love seeing Herbie updates OP:) You have done a great job with him...

BUT ( & will run for cover ) he is very dead to the leg, as a rider you are having to work too hard to get him to listen to you, would you not consider backing up your leg aids with the schooling whip??, get him moving off your leg over next while before competing again? Also ( run for cover again ) your hands are moving about so much may be giving him mixed signals...

He is a lovely looking pony. Was going to ask if new forest as looks just like my pony who is now out on loan. And a little tip not (cc) your marks would be better if you could be more accurate think of turn down the centre line as half 10m circle much less likely to over shoot. Little things like that are throwing away 2 points. I to have been working on turns down centre line lol x keep going don't be put off x
