The horrid ones second attempt at prelim stressage.

rachaelstar I hate it when that happens.

Holly Hocks we normaly spend a lot of time hacking around the forest it's an amazing place to live :D Sadly we've not got out much lately due to ice and flooding and not enough hours of daylight. :( Sadly I must work to pay my boys keep ;) :p

I'm not surprised that your confidence is low Laura, in the nicest way those people you were with don't sound the most encouraging  I did enjoy the critique from the man who said 'all she's doing is walking' only to be brusquely (sp?) corrected and told to stop being silly, it was a trot! Which leads me onto my next point- there's clearly things to work on, I'm not convinced that he's 100 percent sound, but you've had the guts to a) enter (more than a lot of people!) and b) post here, under your real name.

The poster who said that the name you use for him is wrong (I can't remember the exact comment) I think that's by the by- it's evident that you love him and I use all manner of names for my lad, doesn't infer anything about how I value him.

Take the tips from off here and also invest in some more lessons for the two of you, instead of spending the money on entry fees for the minute, (I hope that doesn't sound rude!) concentrate on getting him fit, forward and check the possible soundness issues. :)

Could I just ask a few questions to save me writing yet another really long reply and then delete it all - i really should learn to use a computer! Would you prefer to pm?

1)why is he not clipped?
2)what do you feed him?
3)How old is he?
4)Do you have his back/saddle/teeth/vet regulary (be honest!)
5)How old are you and do you pay for everything by yourself?

I really want to help you as Ive been through all this with my nf and without being big headed I personally feel I can offer really good advice as I have been through the same as you (infact, mine was even worse!) and really want to help you! :D

Unless you dont want help, tell me to shut up now :p

op firstly congratulations on being brave enough to post a clip of your test.

I am sure all of the posters who offered critiques really are top riders, I am sure I could learn from them . I too am training a very green pony and sadly I confess to being guilty that she still doesn't go like Valegro despite having been backed a whole 8 months.

In fact I for one eagerly await the experts posting clips of them riding dressage tests on your thread so you and I can learn from them .

so come on ladies money where your mouths are please and post your clips so we can learn from what you do rather than what you say.

Op, if you want to ride with neck strap, am sure you could approach show organisers and say you aren't competing as such but want the opportunity to be able to do a test and be marked on it - you would be suprised how in general it wouldn't be an issue. I'm off out doing some combined training next mth and as its not affiliated the organisers are more than happy to let me do a low level dressage test but the next level up jumping if that makes sence.

No, no Hackedoff - I don't think that is fair. You don't have to be a top rider to be able to offer such basic advice that has been offered here. The advice was to help Laura and Herbie. Laura wants to score more highly - she said that herself. People were offering very simple solutions to her problems - stop the PC kicking, keep hands still..... These comments do not reflect a position of expertise that you claim has been assumed by those giving advice or crit so I am unsure what relevance your challenge has. If you would like me to post a vid of me not kick, kick kicking and not pulling while kicking and not waving my arms I could do that. If you want to see me post a pro rider quality test then no, I couldn't provide you with that.

No need to approach the organisers, it is perfectly legal at prelim!

You can find all my videos on my youtube channel wsdelicia :)

Ive ridden to medium level but unfortunately my horse is now injured. I never professed to be an expert but by all means, have a peak.

No offence, SS, but I do remember you getting very upset at constructive criticism and leaving the forum altogether. I think the endless features about Delicia got on some peep's goats ? To be fair, this thread is about Laura, NOT you. You are clearly in a different league.

secret Santa _ bravo for taking me at my word. Lovely horse and clearly not a push button ride. don't blame you for being proud of your horse.

billieblitzen, I stand by my comments. the trouble with forums is that any one can become a self styled expert and some of the comments on op' s post to me seemed rather negative as opposed to constructive.

I sold a push button horse because i wanted to further my dressage career - i miss him dearly every day but he is in a fab home. :)

I am not some faceless entity behind a computer screen, but happy to reveal who i am to anyone :)

OP - once you have had a few lessons, i have no doubt you will be coming on here telling us about your wins at novice :)

if you are happy to post a clip I would be interested to see it, if I and op can learn from it then it would have equal /greater value than a pro riders video. my point was its easy for any one to mount the keyboard and give out advice. the problem is no one knows what any ones real experience is, for all you know I might never have ridden in my life.

is the horse in your pics a different one then? I always naively possibly thought push button = no "debates" with rider? I hasten to add not knocking your horse who is lovely.

Agreed. I don't see what help it would be to the op frankly but I could also post a video showing I am not a pro but I can vaguely hold things together.

This is Delicia, most depfinetly not push button as in a typical alpha mare but my horse of a lifetime. My push button (my definition of push button is a nice horse working with me) was calypso, my first pony :) could do anything on him, delicia likes to have it her own way ;)

Unfortunately she is injured now so will no longer compete...seems a shame but shes very happy and loved :)

mle22, that is basically what I was trying to say !! For goodness sake. Herbie is NOT a zillion pound horse, and his rider has not achieved sponsorship status. This is a thread about Laura and Horrid the Rescue Pony - no-one else !!!

It was me - and what I meant was that if you use a degoratory name then subconcously that will be how you actually think of them - and that is a fact. Call someone ugly and within a short period of time you will think they are ugly - call someone lovely and that is how you react to them. Calling a pony "horrible" and that is how you will see them. Give him a positive name and the relationship will improve.

I am not saying that the OP doesn't love her pony - but that she is building barriers. If her next post is entitled "The Georgeous One has his 3rd attempt at prelim" I bet the video will be vastly improved.

Laura, I looked up your first test, and it did seem Horrid had more life to him in that one ? I think he's lovely :)

You dont think he is lovely at all. You called the poor pony Horrid for a start, he had no *life* in him in the first test either. So stop your grovelling.

I ride one called Asbo, another is known as 'the grey thing', my own I call cow horse, a pony I had a while back that came from the sales was 'the feral one'. There's even another one whose name would gain me an infraction if I were to type it here...they are all very much loved and calling them their naughty pet names doesn't change how they are treated. Op is not building barriers, she's just got a pet name for her pony...like many of us do.

Does this work? It's a video still so not fab quality. I've had this boy since he was 3years old. Lots of history, took me ages for him to trust me on his back not to mention getting him in an arena.

This was last year. A prelim test and we scored 75.9%. We've also qualified to represent our area as individuals at the finals at Hartpury. I remember this test as we arrived late and went in straight off the trailer. We got lots of 'looks' off other competitors who had flashy big warm bloods . Needless to say when we won they were all smiles and commented on how fab he was.

Being picky I could sit up a bit straighter and go for hands held better.
