the importance of hi viz

I assume by this comment that your attempts to keep it out of the press weren't successful anyway?

Yes they were! The quote was taken from the Daventry Express LETTERS page - there were no features about the accident in the main part of the newspaper. and thankfully the story was not picked up by other media, such as TV or national press.

So did someone who witnessed the aftermath write a letter the previous week then?

I have to admit I was a little confused reading it...the missing bits probably didn't help but I can understand you not wanting to name 'real' names...only all the bikers I've known have never referred to themselves as 'cyclists', they're people who ride push bikes, motor bike riders tend to call themselves bikers or motorcyclists.

I'm not sure because I didn't see original letter that had been written into the paper the week previously. Presumably it was having moan about speeding motorcylists vis a vis our accident. I have no idea whether this person witnessed our accident or not. I had to leave out certain bits, but of course if anyone wants to contact the Daventry Express, they will be able to access their archives I am sure.

What I can tell you is that it was a member of the motorbiker's family who wrote the letter from which I quoted - so it was they who referred to the motorbiker as a cyclist, not the actual motorbiker himself.

I agree entirely though with what you say - as an ex off-road biker, I would not have referred to myself as a cyclist. I occasionally do off road mountain biking, and in regard to that I would describe myself as a cyclist.
