I needed to get my grey a new dressage girth as hers is slightly too long (fits the gelding great though - phew!). So I order one in a size down and when it arrived, the overall length is four inches longer than her old one. *le sigh* Buckle to buckle it is two inches shorter, but it's goes past the buckles a long way (more than it looked in the photo). If I was using it with a jumping saddle, it would be fine, but I think it will be right up to the saddle flaps. :( If i get two sizes down, the buckles will be by her elbows, so that would be no good either.

I think I'll have to return it.

I actually rather like that in a dressage girth as quite a few horses don't like the gap where there is only narrow girth straps, it can 'nip' them in the ribs.

I guess I could pop in in a sheepskin cover or wrap it in clingfilm and try it on her (I don't want to get it dirty incase I have to return it). I do think that when she loses weight (has a grass belly at the mo, due to being on field rest) it might come over the bottom of the saddle flaps.

The frustrating thing is that she needs something that's really cut away from the elbows and this one is great in that respect.

That's so annoying.
I bought a rug the other week. It was a real bargain. When it arrived, I realised it wasn't a no fill lightweight rug, but a 150g.
I haven't returned it. It's very nice but, I don't actually need it.

Even worse, I then had to order a not-a-bargain no fill rug.

Mm I am just in the middle of looking at double bridles on the net, and cannot for the life of me make a decision size wise. My mare's a big CBx type, and headcollar/bridle wise is hit and miss between a full and extra full. I just know that whatever I decide to order will end up getting sent back :-(

Ooh where did you get a 150g rug? I was looking all last winter for one!! Lol!

I had my DR saddle made with short girth straps for that reason, and I buy a longer girth. I don't like long girth straps, I always think they pinch the horse and look uncomfortable.

I tend to use a longer dressage girth to avoid this - also that keeps the buckles well away from the horse's elbows too, but keeps the bulk away from under your leg.

Sorry about your disappointment OP. I had brilliant horsey post from ebay this morning, a saddle pad that is way better than I could have hoped for and less than half the price I thought I'd have to pay. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Works both ways :)

Keep the girth: in about 10 years time you'll buy a saddle and be looking for a girth that fits.....................

If I ever get her a jumping saddle, it might be perfect... you never know.

Moomin - I understand the bridle frustration too. Mine are nicely sized between pony and cob. I've ended up going to the tach shop with a tape measure before.
