But unfortunately - only the remains of him. Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere on the site, but read it last night on todays Racing Post.

If you don't remember - it was "Zimbabwe" who went missing on a military firing range back in January.

Well apparently some workmen came across what was left of his body - badly decomposed. It was found in a 20 foot deep ditch. He has been identified by the tendon boots that were still on him and some hair nearby. Vets think he would have died of hypothermia because of how bad the weather was at that time. An investigation will now be sought with the MoD who originally said that the horse could not have got onto their firing range.

Poor old boy - what a way to go - having raced 22 times and won 6 times including the Irish Cesarewitch. Lets hope he died quickly.

Poor horse, yes it has been posted on here but it still has the same impact second time round. I just hope he died quickly, he would have done in that cold weather I suppose. Even so it doesnt bare thinking about. We have a range in this area and it really is a wild and vast place. People have gone missing and found weeks later having frozen to death, even with the skills of mountain rescue they are hard to find.

I always wondered what happened to that poor horse and even started to believe the rumours and gossip of "something a bit dodgy" going on.

Such a shame :(

What a strange co-incidence. Have been down at Camber with the dog today and was thinking about Zimbabwe and what happened to him, then to read this tonight. So sad, poor lad.

glad he has been found and can be laid to rest properly,

its a sad world we live in :(

remember all the accusations of insucance scams etc etc? poor owners must have been through hell and they were innocent the whole time- my heart goes out to them x

Glad there is finally an ending, just hope Zimbabwe went quickly and didn't suffer long. Maybe the MOD will come up with a few answers over the next few weeks, but as said before, a horses life won't be high on their priority.

Report says that MoD denied horse would be on their land, so therefore no thermal image gear used.

The MOD as an organisation are distinctly seperate from the military, they are overstaffed with two faced, obstructive, self serving and petty beaurocrats, being economical with the truth is something they're very good at.

At one stage there were more MOD "Civil" servants then soldiers in the army!

I've known them issue blanket statements about issues - Snatch Landrover, Nimrod, SA80, Bodyarmour helicopter support all of which have denied the existance of a problem, only to have to retract it some years later in the face of an avalanche of contrary evidence, often costing countless lives, so why on earth would you think they'd exert themselves for a horse.

It always used to amaze me that the military did such a good job in spite of the MOD.

Soapbox climbed down from.......good humour returning!
