Argh! I was so excited this morning and after setting off with everyone, the horses were pretty excited so we decided to split up abit to calm them down.

This worked for a while but my usually kick-a-long horse was so hot headed that I was finding it hard to keep him walking (we didn't do any trotting as they would have all just tanked off). He's on a snaffle bit.

Everytime I got him being responsive and settled another girl who does not usually hack with would tank up behind us despite it being made quite clearly that we were only walking. This in turn would then set two of the horses off (including mine). This happened time and time again so it was suggested that those that wanted a fast ride went one way whilst the others walked back.

The two cobs and a well behaved TB set off on the walk home whilst the other girl decided to follow despite there being two others on the fast one. Again she started tanking up behind us setting them off again and again.

The girl on the other cob decided she'd had enough (not her horse it was her friend's) and wanted to get off. It was suggested that she ride the well behaved TB instead which whilst remounting - crazy girl allows her horse to reverse into the two unmounted horses. She then allowed her horse to reverse into my leg whilst on my boy - both times the horse was undisciplined.

The crazy girl's horse started pawing at the ground, rearing and reversing into all three horses. Even after positioning myself in brambles he still managed to reverse at us. In the end she said that she would head home after telling her horse that they weren't in a show so he should stop rearing (whilst laughing).

As soon as she was out of sight the three horses settled back into their normal characters.

We were all left feeling fed up that our ride hadn't gone as planned, especially considering that it was my first with new boy. The two cob riders (myself included) also have some fetching blisters.

Said crazy girl has been told several times by different people that unless she handles her horse and disciplines when required - we will not feel comfortable with her riding with us.

How else would you approach this as she clearly doesn't listen?

Hot chocolates all round! Rant over!

Riding is dangerous enough, without senseless people along for the ride. She changes her behaviour - or no-one goes out with her. Simples :)

exactly the same way, you need to hack with like minded people especially when getting used to a new horse, the fact she kept bombing up behind you is just stupid and I would of lost my complete rag with her and thumped her !!! you done well and right in my eyes

What a nightmare!! Best way to deal with it, is not hack out with this girl again!!
At least no one was hurt, and I'm sure she hasn't made any hacking friends with her and her horses behaviour!!

I went out today with some others I don't normally go with, and one girl kept stopping and starting her horse as "it was strong" whilst another kept using my horses bum as her stopper.... which of course my horse really didn't like!!

I guess you will always get these people, and the best thing to do, is deal with the situation there and then, and remember not to go out with them again!!

I wouldn't go out with her again either.

You coped well and now you know not to go out with her again. A ride out with that girl sounds like a recipe for disaster!

The other girls said that next time (if there is one) her reverses on me I should smack her horse but in hindsight - I don't want to put my horse at risk as her's is prone to kicking.

It made me feel really frustrated - it's hard enough getting to know a new horse and being tested but she wasn't helping at all. I was second quessing my own ability with annoyed me even more. I'm just so glad that he settled eventually as it proved it wasn't me or him but the crazy girl!

Thanks for the support everyone!

:eek::eek:

That's just asking for even more trouble!

Ditto this! I agree with you not wanting to do this. Will just be dangerous for everyone involved.

Just politely tell her that you can't go out with her again if she insists on unsettling the other horses - she'll soon get bored of riding on her own!

Good luck, hope your next fun ride is more 'fun'!
; o )

Yeh that's what i thought!

Ah well - there's always next time! I might stick at the back in future so I can go the opposite to her (like everyone else)!

It is a shame that such people wish to make our rides harder, but each to their own I guess. At least no one was seriously injured.

Sounds like a good idea - stick out of her way. She probably won't wind your horse up if she's in front and away from you. I get really angry with people like this as they don't realise how dangerous it can be - I've seen people get kicked because of idiots like that!

I do feel for you OP, I got kicked on the ankle whilst mounted yesterday on an Easter Bonnet ride! The ride was advertised as suitable for lead reniers, but we still got the idiot teenager on an uncontrolled horse. The problem is you can't stop her tagging along. Have a word with the organisers of the event, make sure they know what happened and maybe a word from them will have more effect on this girl, mind you it might not, it depends how thick skinned she is.

She seems to be quite thick skinned as she's been warned by everyone. I think that this type of person may only change their thinking once an accident has occured but it shouldn't have to come to that.

It was so clear that I was trying to position myself away from her but her horse's bum kept finding us.

I don't understand it though - when my horse tried barging another I was embarrassed and apologised to the rider but none of this from her. Everything was just a joke.

I can honestly say I never want to have such a **** ride ever again so if she goes, I won't!

I think you should all drag her off her horse and give her a bloody good slap.

I know, it's not a helpful suggestion, but wouldn't it be nice!!!
