The price of horse feed

not horse feed but i hatch and rear poultry and most things ie chick crumbs layers pellets etc have gone up going to have to raise my prices as well
 
I bought a bag of cheap mix the other week to get meds in a horse. I think the last time I bought a cheap mix in the dark ages it was around £6. Now the cheapest mix they had was 12.99! That's "brand" prices to me.

All my usual chaff, grass nuts, pink Mash etc is all up at least £2 each.

The only thing that hasn't gone up so far is their vit/min balancers

Glad you got a rise ?? I have hinted that a pay rise would be nice so I could give up at least one of my weekend cleaning jobs but nothing. Wish I didn’t like my job so much. (Try not to think about the new work pick up and lorry that’s been bought when I’m not even on £10 an hour) ? might mention it again before I’m off on holiday next week ?

Perhaps have a look on Indeed at other local comparable jobs and present print outs to your boss and ask for the going market rate or a bit more if you do more than the JD's; sometimes even highlighting on the JD for the job role which tasks you currently complete in your job make it even more plain to see. Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs, but this is what I advise my staff to do when they approach my FD with similar concerns.
 
Feed has definitely gone up, my bag of Dengie Hi Fi molasses free has gone up to £17. I don’t blame Dengie but it’s just another hit in the pocket. It’s lucky I only use two handfuls a day (small fat Welsh who needs his medication), but I don’t envy those needing significant amounts of feed.

Prices of chicken feed has doubled in the last 12 months. I now buy the cheapest brands. And no longer worry that the neighbours feed them on their driveway.

horse feed wise. Cheap pony nuts have gone up £2 a bag. I've not bought balancers for a month or so as got a few bags when on offer.
I've started grabbing the odd bag of sugarbeet and chaff when they are damaged in the reduced corner and putting them away for winter. Its not something I would normally do, but with 3 to winter I want to make sure I'm covered.

Thank god the grass is growing!

On a more positive note it looks like we are going to get 2 cuts of hay round here this year, which will hopefully keep the prices at a reasonable rate.
 
Both my horse feeds have gone up around £2/£2.50 per bag, from the one brand. I buy straight from the supplier. Bedding on the other hand has gone up by a third which is quite significant.
 
I don't feed mine a lot of hard feed so haven't particularly been stung by this. I really only feed the 2 on the yard and they are pretty economical anyway. i am very glad to get my hay for free though as i shovel it in all year round.
 
I’ve been paying £5.50 for a small bale of hay for a few years - expect that will go up
 
Wood pellets have gone up from £5.99 to over £8.00 a bag by us. I've only just discovered I love them and can't live without them too :rolleyes:
 
I feed Topspec Balancer, the stud for my youngster and Performance for my ridden horse. They look great on it but I have noted their bags are now 15kg for the same price. I'd rather they didn't shrink the bags to hide the increase, as I still need to feed the same amounts!

I'm worried price rises will increase and by winter we will see more impact on bedding and hay too. We normally fertilise our grass so we get a couple of cuts of hay and sell some. We didn't fertilise it this year because even if we could justify the cost, we couldn't even get the fert! Which means I may not even get enough hay for my horse and def won't be selling any. Most of the farmers I know have also fertilised a lot less this year which will reduce the crop available and increase costs.

I'm worried we will be feeling the pinch for a few years :-(

Top Spec has been 15kg bags on all but comprehensive for ages now, literally years.

You'd be better off feeding both something like D&H Suregrow and save yourself a fortune on yellow bag marketing
 
I buy in bulk as I can store it. Oh my word, how much !! I've gone for a lie down in a darkened room now.

Thank goodness I only have one horse that eats serious food.
 
I ran out of alfalfa at a bad time so yard horses have had to slum it with cheap chaff that kira is currently eating just to get her regumate in.
Well! Buckets cleaned much more enthusiastically than usual ? might be a permanent swap!
