Well we are elated!!! Cloud has her baby!!
Went to bed last night at 9.30pm in readiness for checking every hour on her. I lay there watching her and when she lay down at 10pm I knew that something was up. I went through to Megan and said to her that Cloud was about to go into labour. She was sooooooo excited!!! We got dressed and took our little foaling kit with us. The intention was to sit outside the field, however we could see that the birth was imminent therefore we wandered quietly down to the shelter.
Almost the moment we settled ourselves down, the legs came out, then the head. We sat quietly and left Cloud totally to it. She was terrific and it was a text-book case. She took a breather and then pushed the shoulders out; another breather and pushed the body out. No help from us whatsoever and no meddling.
Cloud dealt with it all perfectly. Foal lay with her (yes I said her) legs still in Cloud plugging her up. They lay like that for a good 10 mins and then Cloud finally got up, umbilical cord broke, I tied up her placenta as she was licking and kissing her baby. She then delivered her placenta with ease about 20 minutes later - everything was intact and looked healthy.
The filly, as yet un-named, had no trouble finding her feet and was very quickly wandering around and kicking up her heels....honest! We were chuckling at her bouncing around. She had a little bit of trouble finding the milk-bar but with minimal help from us, she latched on and all was good.
We sat up with them till about 3am as the wolves were out and didn't want anything happening to our much-awaited little bundle. We cleared up all remnants of blood etc. and left them to it.
I got the whole birth on video, unfortunately I don't know how to upload it onto a site, but I also got lots of photos which I have just uploaded.
So she's a little grey filly, with some white markings but looks like none on her body, just legs and face....time will tell though once her chestnut coat has been shed.
Here you go - enjoy!
