I want to get one for the Dizzy one. Mainly to be used for cooling her off, but will no doubt get used at other times.

Just had a look on the Thermatex website, and got confused (easily done)

Don't know which one!

I do know what colour though - fuscia pink

(16.3hh chestnut mare).

This might sound boring but my sis's Chestnut mare looked really lovely in her brown thermatex with a coffee coloured banding. I made the mistake of getting my boy a baby blue one and yes he does wear it for 'other times' and now it's totally poo stained!

I have a thermatex for my boy to travel to & from hunting & also as a cooler. I have just bought the Wetherbeeta Thermo-cell equivalent to use as an everyday rug to save the Thermatex & am really impressed. Its probably a bit better than the thermatex & half the price. The fabric is just the same but honeycomb quilted. More like the Thermatex 2000. also. cross surcingles are standard, not an extra option. No Fushsia though!

Defo get the original rug, the top one but if you are on shavings then the cordura covered version is a must. Order one size smaller with thermatexes as they stretch abit. I think the lighter weight versions are lovely but a cheaper priced cooler does the same job. The only think with thermatexes and thermaluxes is the fastenings are shite for £100+ worth of rug! I always double up the top buckle of the thermatex, they can slip.
Being a pink fan..goo for pink but perhaps a boring navy or black with pink as the edging? save on washing? x

Genuine Thermatex are worth every penny. If there is any possibility she may lie down or roll in it, may be worth getting the Cordura covered one, as there is nothing like a Thermatex as a magnet for bits of bedding - esp shavings! I haven't used the Cordura one and don't know if it wicks as well as the original. Personally I'm not convinced the T2000 is worth another £25 or so, though again, I haven't used one - mine all have Originals.

My daughter would kill for a pink one for her black mare, but has to make do with the (affordable) 2nd hand navy blue...! Other daughter's dark bay has a burgundy and gold one, looks fab.

I think the Thermo-cell by Wetherbeeta is available in a chocolate brown with pink binding. My version is Aubergine (purple) with grey binding. I agree about the fastenings on the other makes. My Thermatex does slip back & only has a belly strap.

Well I have the original Thermatex in purple with white binding. I only use it for travelling and shows though but does wash up nice even when there has been poo on it (including white binding)
Buy it a size smaller than you usually need though as they come up large.
I looked at the Weatherbeeta thermo cooler and although I like WBs this is loads thinner than the Thermatex.
I have had mine about 8 years and it still looks good as new.
Can't beat them!!

Ok, not yet made it to bed, am discussing saddles.

The only things that bug me about Thermatex, and the reason I've not bought one already (apart from having fun thinking colours), is that they go to great pains to say each one is hand cut for fit, but then go on to say that if you want a perfect fit, you have to pay extra for cross surcingles; and so many people comment on the rubbish hardware. Makes me grumpy. Quite happy to pay for quality, but then do rather tend to expect what I've paid for (I'm a simple soul

Ours just have belly straps but they don't usually have these rugs on overnight. They stay in place fine for travelling, and in the stable when they need drying off. I think most rugs with some stretch tend to slip back overnight, though on the odd occasion it has been left on under a stable rug, the Thermatex didn't slip to the side, just pulled back a bit tight round the chest.

My oldest one is over 10 years old, has a couple of pulled threads from careless daughter slinging it around the barn, but no problems with any of the fastenings.

Choosing new I'd go for either the original or the cordura covered one, with cross surcingles, in a darkish colour!

So not fuschia pink then?

And which one is the cordura one?

Will have to wait 'till tomorrow to read the reply - my eyes have gone to bed

Definately thermatex, the original does tend to come up big so order a size down from normal, don't worry if it looks tight at the chest to start off with as the fabric relaxes.
Ifyou get the cordura covered version they have cross surcingles as standard but are more true to size as the cordura stops the stretching the normal thermatexes do

I am now on my 3rd Thermatex and I consider them a necessity.

I've always had the boring old navy/red colourway and only ever had the belly strap.

Star has worn hers overnight and with the belly strap and fillet string it stayed in place fine.

Ditto buying one size smaller, I bought a 5'6" one and put it on so many different horses it ended up 6'9"! Thery will mould to your horse.

I'm not sure why but the pony size ones seem to have the plastic clip fastenings which are utter crap while the bigger sizes have roko buckles.

I don't particularly like roko buckles but I have never had a problem with one.

Love my Thermatexs! Have an Ivy green with gold binding and balck with gold binding. Never needed x-surcingles!

As the owner of a Thermatex original & a WB Thermo-cell I think the WB might just be ahead, mainly due to the more durable binding & the surcingles & chest buckles. I wouldn't say the WB was any thinner. Both have a tendency to pull across the chest & I would definately buy a size down from normal. My WB Thermo-cell was only £35.99 & my Thermatex cost £90!
