Thin sheepskin half pads?

Can you get these?

I currently have a Le Mieux one as my mare is sensitive but it's so thick that I'm really perched on top and feel miles away from her.

Can you get thinner ones or alternatives?

I was hoping not to get a lined saddle pad as I want to still be able to use the pads I have.

you could get a sheepskin underlay, eskadron sell them, they have tabs to attach to an unlined saddlepad.

I've been looking at this but the cost is putting me off!

I've never seen any for sale, but years ago I made a thin lambs wool half pad to go under my show saddle from a sheepskin I bought from eBay. Easy enough to cut to shape and it doesn't fray so the edges don't need to be hemmed.

The Eskadron underlays are great. More expensive to buy but it meant I could use it under any saddle cloth including my thin ones. Comes up great with just a brush so I don't feel like I need to wash it every 5 mins.

I have a Rhinegold one that I bought second hand and it is pretty thin now. I'd happily sell it to you if you want, I don't really use it now.

I thought you wanted to use it.
It would be easy with a guard on the clippers, you could leave the fluffy edge that shows.

Oh I do! I meant in the future if I don't need it anymore.

Le Mieux is fairly standard, in fact not as thick as some, sheepskin has to be thick (medical grade, 3omm) to get the full benefit. Has your saddle been fitted to accommodate it? In my experience if it has (very recently, horses change shape quickly) and you feel perched then something in the fit is off.

Yes, it was fitted with the saddle recently. Strangely, my brown Le Mieux half pad was fine with it but I sold it and got a black Le Mieux one to match the saddle as I ended up with a black one and it's only since using that one that I feel miles away. Both half pads were new and the same size.
I was comparing my pictures of them both with the same saddle and you can see it is noticeably further away from her back.

Theres been some reserch on this recently, I think it advised using the sheepskin over the gel but i'm not sure which one.
